Palace v Savilla match thread

As individuals neither appear to have the skill set to play as lone striker in the Premier League. It’s rumoured that we’re after a new striker to fix this issue, but if we don’t get one I wonder if there could be merit in perhaps trying Mateta and Edouard together - at least against weaker opposition. Playing two strikers has largely gone out of fashion in the Premier League, but Edouard can play coming in from the left (where we have a vacancy!) and also play off the striker. Both seem comfortably marked out of games when played in isolation against opposition defences , but perhaps they would be afforded more space if there were two forwards for the opposition to be concerned with. It’s not an ideal solution but we need to find a way of carrying more threat, in particular in the absence of Zaha and Olise. It could even be used for spells in games; at the moment it’s either one or the other with one frequently being used to substitute the other rather than being utilised together.

Twenty one thousand at the game last night.... great atmosphere all around and overall a great game to watch. Eze was by far the best player on the pitch but got kicked up in the air time and again. He seems to be able to take the knocks but if that happens in the league we're going to get a ton of free kicks around the box. It was fantastic to see Andersen give some payback to the Sevilla players dishing it out. All in all great seeing so many Palace Fans enjoying some great football. Watching every game live on TV doesn't come close to the real thing..... COYP

Twenty one thousand at the game last night.... great atmosphere all around and overall a great game to watch. Eze was by far the best player on the pitch but got kicked up in the air time and again. He seems to be able to take the knocks but if that happens in the league we're going to get a ton of free kicks around the box. It was fantastic to see Andersen give some payback to the Sevilla players dishing it out. All in all great seeing so many Palace Fans enjoying some great football.

Watching every game live on TV doesn't come close to the real thing..... COYP

My old memory might be tricking me but I think I recall the two of them doing well in the 2nd half against Liverpool in the home game in the 21/22 season when Mateta set Edouard up for our goal. We had the Scousers under a lot of pressure in that 2nd half until the awarding of that unfair penalty against Guaita in the dying minutes. So you may have a point at least until Olise is back and Franca is up to speed (assuming we don't lose the latter to a last minute gazump)

So you may have a point at least until Olise is back and Franca is up to speed (assuming we don't lose the latter to a last minute gazump)

Can’t see us doing it from the start, however it’s a decent plan B if we need to chase a game. I still think Mateta may be sold and replaced but let’s wait and see.
