Buying young players to sell them on is a solid strategy. It completely falls apart if you don't buy every summer. All that happens is one group all progress to the point of leaving at the same time and there's nothing behind them to replace it. This won't look like a problem if we make 2 or 3 decent signings in the next couple of weeks. If we don't, then next summer is d-day all over again.

Eze is the one I fear losing as he's shown he has goals in him and with only 2 years left on his contract (not 3 as another poster alleged) we may need to sell him sooner rather than later to extract best value. Ideally. I'd like to see another youngster brought in as well as Franca. Ahamada is showing signs that he might be a future asset as well.

As much as I wouldn't want to lose him (and we do need some experience in the team) we need to be more strategic about selling, and contract extension. At present he's 27 with 2 years remaining. I think we could afford to extend now, but to protect the value, but take a reasonable offer in the next 18 months (if one comes in). On Eze, if I was Parish I'd be doing everything in my power to get him to commit to a new contract. He's currently one of the lowest paid in the squad, but the most important. I'd be offering him the top wage at the club c.100k and if he needs it to sign, a release clause of c.80/100m

As Eze continues to realise his great potential I foresee him receiving the same kind of treatment that was reserved for Zaha - the doubling-up, the snide fouls etc. Upon which, it was good to see the team leap straight in when Eze was fouled with a cheap shot against Sevilla, my main man Ayew right at the front of the action.

Andersen was bought for the 'now' as we needed some experience at the back. He has done well, but has shown his limitations too - very slow, being his main flaw. Eze is just so key to Palace now it's ridiculous. Clearly the Lerma purchase was mainly to ensure Eze has even more licence to attack and ignore his defensive responsibilities. Playing Schlupp and Ayew on the wings today means all our attacking flair is now purely down to Eze. If he decides not to sign a new contract, as is his choice, then unfortunately we would need to sell him next summer. As transfer fees have shown this summer even with 1 year left on contracts, the transfer fees have still been quite high

He looks so happy right now it's infectious. It's like the Bolasie days when that big smile could light up a stadium. If Franca signs and is as good as his YouTube clips suggest and Olise stays then we could potentially see something really special this season. It does really feel like there is a great team spirit and a desire to enjoy the game with Eze leading the way.

I think a mantle has been left by Wilf and Eze is quite happy to take it up. Let's hope so anyway.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

If we can find a goalscorer and Roy sorts out our defending at set pieces, then I make you right, but it’s that magic word ‘if’
