As a footnote: I spent a lot of time in Plymouth as a child and teenager visiting my gran, as it was my mum's home city. Although he never played for Argyle, Plymothians were always so proud of TF, who they regarded as "their boy".

Tricky Trev, the first million pound player. He never quite got Palace flying as a manager, but was a top player in his day and a nice bloke. RIP.

I still regard him very highly but am always unsure as to whether it's justified or not? I seem to recall back in the early days of Sky where a Palace League match was only shown every 1/4 century, he scored a hattrick against Crewe (I think, could of made that all up) and secured his place as the 'White Pele' for me My memory is notoriously awful however! Black had a purple patch when AJ was injury one season and did score a lot over the xmas period. I think the game you are thinking of is away at Rotherham - he scored 2 in a 3.1 win. In terms of TF, a fantastic player, an average manager. In his defence Jordan bought Akinbiyi and told everyone!

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

TF was at the first fans forum in the Stephensons Lounge defending the decision to buy Akinbiyi and he was his type of forward at the time. Too much so. But again, a great player and man. RIP

Trevor Francis and myself are the same age, I remember when he scored 4 goals as a 16 year old in a game for Birmingham, thinking to myself, bloody hell he has just scored 4 goals and I’ve got to go to school on Monday, I was so jealous. RIP. We just don’t know what life has in store for us.

Blimey yes, I forgot about that, for that we should be for ever grateful and the irony of our best ever manager being Brightons boss

Sad news, nice guy and an incredible player by all accounts. Just looking back through our squad in 01/02 and 02/03 when he managed us. Some players I used to love but had completely forgotten about like Andrejs Rubins and Tommy Black. Swapping Clinton for Andy Johnson + £3 million will go down as one of the best bits of business in our history as well.

Strange that he was the first £1 million pound British player and we hear about his death on the same day as PSG are offered £259 million for Mbappe. It wasn't that long ago.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Assuming exactly 44 years, £1m to £259m represents an annual growth rate of 13.46%. UK price inflation over roughly the same 44 year period has been 4.34% per annum, meaning £1m in 1979 would 'cost' £6.47m today.
