It's not by any means good though - watchable perhaps. Stallone annoys me and the football is rubbish. The best part is the end. I like all jingoistic films but can still recognise when they're crap. Plus, Bobby Moore West Ham, Ossie Spurs etc.

Bobby Moore won the second world war, you know. I'm surprised Hurst and Peters weren't in the film.

There is no movie of that name

Not exactly YT, but there was 'The Colditz Story'. John Mills starred.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Presumably you mean the very end ie the closing titles, rather than the final scene where the crowd invades the pitch etc. The crowd consisting of a whole load of early-80s-looking people wearing early-80s clothes and sporting early-80s haircuts and running across an early-80s-looking stadium.

Trivia: I can't remember if there was a plotline about the Ossie Ardiles character e.g. whether his character was Argentinian....how he came to be a prisoner etc etc. However, today's interesting fact is that Argentina remained neutral throughout WW2 until 27 March 1945, when it declared war on the Axis countries. And we say that the USA is always late to the party!

The Germans were very demanding too. It wasn't enough to drop the goalkeeper (might have been Kevin O'Callaghan, not a goalkeeper but fair enough) to let Stallone play so they had to break the poor devil's arm. On second thoughts one look at Sly's efforts would've made it clear he wasn't there on merit.

I can't remember either. Could look it up but that's cheating. My guess is Italian who didn't see eye to eye with the Nazis or after the Italian surrender.
An interesting one is Brazillian involvement in WW2. Never realised they sent quite a lot of forces in the end. Argentina funny old one - particularly with their hiding of Nazis. Much like Ireland in that respect.

Stallone was no George Wood.

I believe Brazilian forces fought in Italy. It was a good rehearsal for the 1970 World Cup Final, which had a similar outcome.

As an aside and on your early 80s point stardust with David Essex. A live gig with a 1966 poster and the band in early beatles matching suits. Otherwise it was early 1970s. The fans were all there for Essex. They didn't even bother dressing the roadies and security.

Same thing with Quadrophenia where the extras were clearly late 70s versions of the original mods.
It didn't matter and Lesley Ash was enough of a distraction.
