The decision to promote Paddy surely rests on the recommendation of Dougie as Director of Football. Now, over the years there have been people on here moaning about the lack of succession planning within the Club. So we presently have a situation where Palace are doing just that. And guess what….people are moaning. We don’t know for certain what the plan is, but hey, it’s another thing to moan about. If Paddy is to be Roy’s successor, it would be nice for people to embrace the idea and give the guy some support. It will either work out or it won’t - just the same as if we recruit outside of the club.

Also, I wouldn't assume that Roy is only going to be here for one year. If things go well this season and he feels up to it, he may well carry on for a second year. If so, it should be pretty clear to him, Dougie and Steve by the end of the second year whether or not Paddy was ready to step up.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

OMG, Are you seriously comparing the Liverpool boot room that had world class knowledge passed from Paisley to Shankly to Fagan etc to Paddy Macarthy managing our youth team?

I believe Pep's first coaching job was the Barca u-21 or B team, before he got the top job there .... just saying ....

No-one (as far as I can tell) is suggesting that McCarthy is ready to take over now, but then he's not being asked to. He's being asked to continue his apprenticeship as Hodgson's assistant for at least the next season. Time will tell whether he develops sufficiently to be considered as our next manager. As an aside, the order at Liverpool was Shankly, Paisley, Fagan and, if my memory serves me right a lot of football pundits were sceptical when Liverpool appointed Fagan but he proved them wrong.
