One wonders whether the guy who owned it was so far up his own arse with invincibility mentality and ‘I’m a maverick pushing the boundaries’ that he took his eye off the ball with reasonable Health and Safety checks which no doubt he scoffed at. I’m not sure what standards are on the high seas or for that matter in outer space and we certainly don’t want guys with clip boards and pencils wandering around stopping everything but there’s a balance… Quite possibly.

They all have to sign a disclaimer, prior to being admitted on board, which mentions death three times in the first paragraph apparently. There will be no litigation. They all knew the risks, so while tragic, does not really deserve much sympathy. I heard someone on radio saying it is safer to travel into space than into deep water. An ocean is a dangerous place to be at any time, even on the surface near the shore. One mistake and it's over. It's not much different from mountaineers dying on climbs. Either way, if you play with fire, you may well get burnt.

Early on in aviation and even with cars there were many instances where profit was chosen ahead of the necessary maintenance/materials and other sensible safety precautions. [Tweet Link]

It's not quite the same point, but 12 people have been to the surface of the Moon whereas 2 people have been to the deepest part of the oceans. And those 2 didn't emerge from their vehicle whereas the 12 did!

you ever noticed how the Media coverage is high when a Richard Branson type gets killed..........and Media coverage is virtually absent when 500 people die in a Train Crash in the Third World.
