I suggest you re-read Essay on the Subjection of Women (1869) and, should you get on well with John Stuart Mill and Harriet Taylor Mill move onto Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men.

Women constitute 39% of barristers, 53% of solicitors and 77% of Chartered Legal Executives. As at 1 April 2022, about a third (35%) of court judges and half of tribunal judges were women.

I don't think John Mill would be that happy with what he sees today and as for the feminist twaddle....no thanks. I can see the disaster around me thanks, just as with the 'make busy' jobs within the expansion of HR.

The recent increase of women within the legal profession doesn't change what my point was. If you take even 1 percent of 40 million I think you fill those positions quite easily.

Maybe you read it a little too quickly Maple. Try re-reading the post.

It is a shame that you don’t read more. And more varied sources. Your post is all supposition and has no science behind it. Just prejudice. And if you have read the work of the Mills you will know they would be delighted to see how the debate has moved on. It was not only John Stuart Mill that wrote you know, but of course women don’t count.

Quite frankly, I regard that as a disgusting and unwarranted attack on women's mathematical skills.

Maple, you should become a Catholic, take yourself down to the confessional and let the priest hit you about the face with a wet tuna.

There's a discount on Mondays.

Due to not being able to get through all of the fish bought for Fridays I suppose

I think it's because the slappers are really popular on the weekends and subsequently the Mondays are a bit slow.

Ah. Well now we know they are allowed to eat beaver on Fridays, there may be less demand for tuna.

It's the missing eleventh commandment, alongside the twelfth.

Thou shall not have marmite on your crumpets.

Wash your mouth out! Other yeast based extract products simply won't do.

It's blasphemy, worthy of the attention of the Spanish inquisition.

Marmite must never see a crumpet.....its eyes must be averted.

Only the saintly butter or the fallen margarine is allowed in its presence.

Absolute misogyny.
All we need now is the terrorised “reds under the beds” fans blaming lefties and hyperventilating as to whether it’s woke or not which is, simply put, full of sound snd fury signifying nothing. Poor souls will be flummoxed when the “hip” buzzword changes from Woke to something else hijacked from black culture

I thank you for the generous reading but no, I like traditional gender roles. They have served humanity well for most of our existence and we are seeing the damage within society from moving away from them.

I wouldn't ban men from becoming nurses....but let's just say that I think a culture that promotes it is misaligned.

As for female vicars....it's a perversion of the religion....either do the religion properly or don't bother. If I were religious I'd definitely be Catholic or Orthodox I think.

I can't respect something that sells out most of what it's about just to fit in just because it's culturally convenient in its era.

Edited by Stirlingsays (03 Jun 2023 8.02pm)

I don't agree your point about nurses; but I do religion.

The major religions were born from the worlds prevailing at the time. They are middle eastern and wholly patriarchal. They had to be brutally imposed on western culture as women had an important part to play here; deities were often female. Women were not considered secondary, property of males and baby machines. The moment Christianity took root, they were. And God protect them if they were infertile.

On which, homosexuality was abhorred as beliefs require numbers to have resources and power. Without it, they are crushed as marginal, seditious cults. Absent the critical procreation, homosexuality was not just frowned upon, it was violently oppressed in the manner one expects from that age.

Thus, the whole concept of female clerics and gay Christians I find, frankly, weird. Who would strive to belong to a faith that has always believed you should either be locked away at home knocking out little Christians or be burned alive at the stake?

As you say, if you are going to do religion, do it properly. Creationist fundamentalism is the only way. Every word in the Bible is fact and true regardless of the advance of time and the evolution (dread word!) of human culture.

And while they get down on their knees and pray to the sky, I will inwardly laugh from the sidelines. After all, you mustn't mock the afflicted.
