Ancient Rome had low inflation and few surprises....mostly. AI could create a Frankenstein-Terminator scenario in the financial markets.....leading to the Mother of all Crashes ? I definitely think there is some mileage in the fall of Rome analogy. Obviously it's a very general and limited metaphor because of the many differences but at the core lies an inherent truth. Some of the same causes behind its downfall are present now - less violent but highly accelerated. But I don't want to get off the AI focus.

Like many a great genius. the problem with both Google and AI is they still give the wrong answer to a question....fairly often. I tried out Chat gpt...and told it was wrong, it agreed with me and clarified its previous answer. Humans have accountability for previous feck-ups. Computers....maybe not.

It would certainly be refreshing if humans with actual power had some accountability for feck-ups. As it is that's very much not the case....the more powerful the less accountability. But I'm being naughty here....AI is coming whether we like it or not. As SW implies, Chatgpt is just one of the aspects media is being told to focus on.....but with the amount of funding being ploughed into it (and it's a lot) we are going to see it in a lot of areas. Mozart, Goethe, Isaac Newton, Leonardo DaVinci, Sid Barrett..... No more heroes anymore. --------------------------------- you are familiar with the idea of a fella playing chess while cheating with a covert computer ? how about chatting up a fit bird while you hold onto a secret AI ? will she need to also have an AI to defend & protect her virtue ? protect it from your onslaught of amazing one-liners. I remember posting on here a good few years back about a robotic worm, it was sentient, instinctively tried to avoid danger, it had a need to feed, it was a completely sentient non organic being, we've come a long way in a very short time. AI for a time will be revolutionary for the human race but it will eventually kill us, either by god like dominance over us or the human race will become so dependent so plugged into AI we'll simply wither away as a species.

Humanity is going to destroy itself one way or another. AI is possibly just another form of nail to be hammered into our own coffin.

the jobs market will divide into 98% of unemployed/plebs with an option of a shyte job for poor money. And then 2% of tecchies who will be paid like Messi/Ronaldo. The normal World will begin to reflect the Football World. And YOU will be one of the plebs too. Edited by PalazioVecchio (02 Jun 2023 10.33am)

Even huge exponents of it will actually tell you that AI is quite limited. Where the very cutting edge stuff will be, will be the US military and that will not filter down to the general public for some time.

I recently spoke to an IT guy who specialised in AI and worked for one of the big UK insurance companies. They have built their own AI as most major companies do or are planning to do. Google is the one the press have picked up on but there are many out there. I think the change is going to be quite rapid and not necessarily for the good, I doubt you will get to talk to a person very soon.

They usually offer no help whatsoever. I can tell you now that they don't understand sarcasm, humour or swearing in capitals - just from personal experience. Ryanair and Curry's spring to mind.

We will see I guess but there is a hell of a lot of money going into the area.
