He should go to Turkey. Galatasary have just won the league so he would get immediate champions league action.

Everton were rumoured to be after him in the January window but we quoted a ridiculously high price

I struggle to think of a player who has played for us in the PL who has a worse first touch than JPM. Also, for a player of his size he's rubbish at heading. He'll score plenty of goals in a smaller league because he can shoot well, but I just can't see him making it as a PL striker as his technique is poor. I did see an Everton news page comparing him to DCL...I think they are going to be seriously disappointed if they think he is of the same level as DCL!

If you put that trait of lack of first touch combine it with what to do next Ie don’t fumble stumble or forget the ball vs minutes played then Ed is your award winner for this not Boom Boom

A former coach of his at a French club commented that Mateta is more accomplished with his feet than with his head.

From what I have seen week and week out Mateta is not gifted in either department. Then let us get someone in that has some skill, guile and can physically compete up front.

Being quite honest about Mateta, whenever I hear his name I feel like I have Taurette syndrome and just want to say sh1t. With Edouard I just want to say lazy. That's exactly how I sum them up. I won't miss either at all. When you consider it, Aylott scored more. I know they're our players but they're not cutting it and they're a waste of space and money.

I disagree with the vast majority on here. I think both OE and JPM have shown glimpses that they both can succeed at this level. JPM has never been given a run in the team. Strikers feed off confidence. Goals build confidence. With both they score and then are benched the next game. If Wilf goes then they may get more opportunities next year. I hope they stay and succeed.

I hope they stay and succeed. I am somewhere in-between BE. I think both have the ability to score goals, which is what we want, however only to a certain extent. I also agree however that consistently switching them isn't helpful, it's almost as if we are waiting for one to just bag a hattrick then go on an amazing scoring run to say 'that's our guy'. For me the most important thing is the declaration of 'this is how we are going to play' then sticking with the one most suited to that style. In my mind they are both nearly there however not arrived and hence why neither have cemented down the starting XI spot. Either stick with one and make a decision or bring somebody new in, who will guarantee that starting spot, and offload one of them. Having two half-players doesn't make a whole. Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I kind of agree that with OE it may be more of a confidence issue as I do think he has technique and skill. I don't think JPM has either.

Again, I agree there TL but I'd argue JPM has shown a better ability to 'get on the end of things' whereas OE is more a 'drop deep and get involved in play' kind of striker. Consistently swapping one for another depending on opponent and how the game is panning out doesn't seem to be working. For me it's similar to Clyne/Ward at RB. The same approach isn't viable long term and is only papering over a crack. I'd rather just see a decision made and us proceeding with it to determine what action needs to be taken in the future, if any.
