Probably my favourite player since he arrived at the Club. Technically excellent with that extra bit of time on the ball that the very good players possess. But also combative, wiling to put a foot in if necessary and when he was younger able to do box to box too.
Bought under Neil Warnock's reign for £9m if I remember rightly - our transfer business has not always been great, but he was a real gem. He will be missed.
After the famous win against Chelsea in one of Roy's first matches I had a few beers at the ground and then bumped into James as he was leaving the stadium. He looked slightly terrified at this tipsy 60 year old requesting a selfie with him. If he ever reads this...James I sincerely apologise.

A giant for Palace and hugely underrated outside our club in the sense that he rarely made headlines. He was mighty for us all through his time here, but I thought his star shone particularly brightly last season. Good passer of the ball and a hard competitor. One of those players who always looked proud to wear the red and blue.

I hope he makes an appearance on Sunday and that our DJ plays Jimmy Mack by Martha and The Vandellas good and loud!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Realisation of the status and respect they have with us minions

I’ve just watched an interview with Roy where he suggests that McArthur would be around the top of the list of players that he has ever worked with.
He also mentioned that McArthur was still as good as anybody in the current training sessions.
I don’t think this is a sentimental assessment, with the player leaving, but based on hard evidence.
But for his recent injury record I’d have been happy for the club to extend his contract.
Milner has supposedly earned a contract at Brighton and Modric is likely to extend his time at Real Madrid.
There’s no reason why players in their mid thirties can’t continue to make a contribution if they have exceptional characteristics.
