My view is that if we want to progress we must keep both Andersen and Guehi for another season as our centre backs. Mostly they have been outstanding and one element of our team which is far superior to the rest in the bottom half of the table. I don't buy the argument that any realistic replacement will be anywhere near the same quality as either player.

100% agree,if we are serious about improving and maybe challenging for Europe it is no good breaking a partnership that has worked so well for us,
My view would be if we sell him we are doing our usual, and just feathering the board nest and letting down those supporters that dare to dream!!!

I wonder if it is a case of simple economics.
We are making losses and need to service debt and dividends owed to the American investors.

Maybe we are in the position where we have to sell someone every couple of seasons just to balance the books and he has been identified as the one we could do without.

I hope that's not the case but you have to wonder.

You may be right, and to use a Steve Parish phrase , "it seemed to be the least worst option"

Why would we be declaring dividends if we’re loss making. PE investments are based on carried interests. The money is made upon exit from improvements in equity valuation.

I think at the moment Andersen, Eze, Olise and Doucoure are must keeps, Guehi as good as he is, he is easily replaceable should a 60m+ offer comes in. You dont have to have great defenders to have a great defence, just a coach that can organise it.

I know. Especially Palace. But since Roy has come back it has been dreamy.

Cannot see Guehi or Eze/Olise leave this summer unless a crazy offer comes in. We are talking about 75/80 mill for our brilliant central defender, even more for the above-mentioned duo.
But no, we are not in the position to keep hold of these young players forever. Not this summer though, they will entertain us under Roy the PL season of 2023/24 as well.

I wouldn't say Guehi is easily replicable. He's the most composed defender I think I've seen at any team. IMO his only real area of weakness is aggression and arial ability. Which comes to a head with set plays.

Of the 2 I'd think it would be easier to replace Andersen.

But hey, with 60/70 mil I'd be ok with either going.
