When we say he's 'loyal', I mean it's not like he turned down Real Madrid to stay at Palace, is it?! Even so, I've always liked him. He's been with us so long firstly because he was good enough to be an important part of the promotion team, then because he was good enough to be part of the team that established the club in this league, then because he wasn't bad enough that a new right-back ever became the top priority for a club with limited resources, then because AWB left, then because Ferguson is cursed, and now because between he and Clyne we can just about cover that position for another year. That said, whatever the circumstances I doubt Palace would have kept him around so long if he wasn't a good lad and good pro, as well as a useful player. Time is not on his side of course, but I'll miss him when he finally goes. Does he not get a testimonial soon? Are testimonials appropriate given the salaries of PL players? Back in the days when the best players could only dream of owning a pub after their footie careers, yes but not now surely.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

Testimonials these days provide an opportunity for fans to say a big 'thankyou' to long serving players who most likely donate the proceeds to their favourite charity. Joel might want to give the money back to CPFC so it can go towards the cost of a new left back!
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Joel hasn’t had much praise on this site over the last couple of seasons but back in the starting line up and has been exceptional ,always puts maximum effort in, been with us since we got promoted , back then I thought he could be picked for England still mr reliable in my view , should be in the premiere league of fame , outstanding contribution over the last ten years i agree with all of this. An Eagle for the hall of Fame. Can we offer him a role in the backroom staff , after his playing career ?

Joel Ward grew up in the New Life Christian Church in Emsworth where his mother and father formed part of the church leadership team and helped to look after the grounds. Your knowledge knows no bounds Willo, It’s almost as if the Daily Mail have copied word for word your remarks and used them in their article about him…which now ranks as No.1 on the Google search results Edited by Phil’s Barber (12 Apr 2023 10.08pm) Attachment: CF006BFA-CD2D-4A19-8241-8C34F314D828.jpeg (1,125.91Kb)

Edited by Phil’s Barber (12 Apr 2023 10.08pm) I have readily admitted that I am an avid reader of the 'Daily Mail', and despite my advancing years I do have a proclivity to retain certain information which is sometimes imparted to all and sundry. For avoidance of doubt I never conducted any 'Google' search before I posted the details apropos Joel Ward.I have no idea as to how I acquired the information, it was just buried somewhere in my cerebral matter.

Absolutely remarkable Willo, I’d struggle to remember something ‘word for word’ from yesterday…never mind 7 months ago Attachment: F95445F2-9069-4C4D-8281-CC11A47653E4.jpeg (82.45Kb)

Returning to Joel Ward, I have just remembered that I recall his brother Alex playing for a non-league team quite a few years ago.I cannot remember the exact team but it might have been Pagham in the 'Sussex County League'.
