With Pats departure, Eze is back to his best in a central role, we don't need to get Gallagher (who incidentally was brought in to cover an injured Eze). He will be expensive and the priority will go to whoever can reduce their transfer budget deficit most. The only players we should be looking at at Chelsea are youngsters who havn't been given a chance yet.

He'd be an excellent buy, though there's zero chance he's coming so it's not worth discussing. He's the replacement we need for Macca (not Eze), and as he's already bedded in with the club and the squad it'd be a sensible, low-risk move.
Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God. |

Oh right you are Syd, absolutely, but at the price tag they'll slap on him combined with the competition we just need to walk away from the idea and not spend our summer on a wild goose chase like last year.

Like everyone else I'd love to have Gallagher back. His star at Chelsea has waned a bit, but it would still be a £30m ish outlay? If Parish thinks we can afford it, Great. But we already have Ahamada, Lokonga maybe if Arsenal want to sell? And we have our own Academy graduates like Philips who might rise to the challenge? Textor could help us with França with his Brazil connections? Obviously not PL ready but one to watch? Edited by PJEagle (25 Apr 2023 12.52pm)

According to click bait Chelsea have to sell players before 30 June to avoid FFP sanctions. I don't know how true that is but we should put in a couple of cheeky low ball bids for some of their players, the worst they can do is say no.

What are people thinking about Broja. He has been out with a ruptured ACL but was impressive when on loan with Southampton. Might be a player we could potentially loan next season very much along the lines of try before you but to make sure he has fully recovered from his knee injury.

I'm thinking I don't understand the hype. On loan at Southampton he scored 6 goals, not bad but why is he getting all this PR as though he is the next big thing. He's nearly 23 and now has a serious injury. I am not saying he's rubbish but he's still only potential so not deserving of the hype.

Agree entirely however I think it is mainly down to a limited supply in the market for a top striker and the ever increasing demand. Broja did OK for S'ton, he has a decent physical presence and can get a goal which ranks him above about 2/3s of PL strikers already. It may be more FOMO than anything else from clubs like ours where we think 'If he turns out to be world class, and we didn't move...' or equally 'He may already be a top striker and whilst not getting a look in at Chelsea, but given a start elseewhere...'. There's almost an acceptance outside of the Top 6 that they have first dibs on the very limited pool of best strikers, so outside of that the best we can hope for is a loan from one of them. BHA possibly and undesirably one challenger to the top 6 and that bloke they have now looks useless! Brentford have Toney, nurtured from the lower leagues and even Newcastle have their big money player with an ageing Callum Wilson as the replacement! Just for some examples. Broja would be a massive gamble IMHO but would it be more so than paying 10s of millions for Benteke MkII? That's the question!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I would be wary of picking up first team squad players from Chelsea or high profile youngsters like Broja due to cost, I am not convinced we will get any bargains we will still have to pay top dollar for the like of RLC or Gallagher assumming we have any money. However I think that Chelsea have a good academy the chap who played last night has just been released by them and is definitely worth a look. I think Chelsea will struggle to offload some of their overpriced big name players so may be forced to release players lower down the ladder to cut costs. That is the market we should be looking at and then hope they come through in 3/4 years time.

If we want to re-sign him and give him a squad place or loan him to a champ club we can do so. Champ clubs will not be able to compete with us on wages, and if they want him they will need to pay a transfer fee too (maybe £500k??)
