Eddie Reynolds scored all 4 with his head, never been repeated.
Those were the days!

Didn't Sutton beat Coventry in the FA Cup one year when Coventry were a first division team? At Highfield Road as well if my memory is right?

Sutton Utd beat Coventry, then in the top tier, 2-1 at Gander Green Lane in the late 80s.

Just trying to give the Hughes love in a bit of balance

Am I the only one that thinks that the timing of Hughes illness was too coincidental, it didnt seem to matter what he did when he had time on the field, he was only being called upon by PV almost as a last resort, then suddenly out of no where PV picks him to start & Hughes in sick, a few more weeks go past & just before PV is fired the same scenario repeats itself -

I think Hughes (quite rightly) got pissed off with being jerked around & suddenly decided that if he was only being called upon for emergencies he would throw a sickie to screw PV over.

I may be completely wide of the mark on this but I dont believe in coincidences & there was too much about this scenario that smacked of being artificially massaged -

PV had a pet project of trying to turn Sclupp into a centre midfield player and he refused to give up on it no matter how bad it got. He probably deserved to be sacked for that alone.

Little mistakes like not playing Hughes more than a one off all added up and collectively cost Veira his job. We all saw it. Maybe when you’re to close to the action and make bounds with certain players and not others your pure football judgement sometimes goes to pot.

Ironically Hughes was one of our few good signings and then tragically hugely underused. Let’s hope Roy rectifies this. Him and Doucoure in the middle give us real bite, fight and cover.

I have a feeling (and hope) that Hughes will feature more under Hodgson than PV.

It might just be me, but with PV's somewhat disinterested and aloof final few months, and if any of the speculation is true, I do wonder if there was a certain apathy from him in picking teams? He did seem to be picking predictably questionable starting XIs and maybe that was partly down to lack of enthusiasm/care and for whatever reason didn't include Hughes?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

For me in possession Hughes is probably our best user of the ball particularly under pressure in tight area's. Defensively he is lacking in pace and strength although he does look more of a ball winner than some of our other midfielders.
Although not prolific he does have a goal in him particularly in his younger days.
All in all definitely an option and i think it will depend on if we try and look to play more in the front rather than the back foot.

Certainly get the impression Vieira didn't want him.

I was sceptical but think he's been the best of centre mids when he's played this season.

Hughes always put in a good shift. A true tackler, eye for a pass and combative. Shame he never was trusted by PV, the same goes for another midfielder/defender - Jairo Riedewald.
He was in for Van Anholt a couple of seasons ago - POTM - and back on the bench. Was a 9 min. cut from Hodgson's first training session and again, Riedewald highly impressive.
If he never gets a chance, why keep him on a good wage?

If Hughes is fit I'll be very surprised if he is not in Roy's starting 11.
