Not the most surprising news. The results show that Vieira was the problem

Paddy Mac back to academy? Works for me as their results slid badly when he went to 1st team.

Derry has already shown during his time in the lower leagues that he doesn't have much to offer in the 1st team management stakes. Paddy's star is still on the rise and we simply don't know if he will make the grade but spending a year at Hodgson's side will do him no harm, whereas a move back down to the U21s will be demotivating. After all, what has he done wrong to cede the role to Derry?

I am not surprised in many ways. It was reported that viera got rid of him because of his reactions in the dressing room. The point is he has some fire as did Viera as a player but as a manager he failed completely to motivate and get the player to have passion and care when they don't play well. I feel that getting rid of him was Viera's biggest mistake. You need someone like Shannon in the dressing room to keep players on their toes and earning their wages

If rumours of our limited budget are true perhaps Derry is being brought back as a player rather than a coach.

Of course you are right Cryst having witnessed all of these we still have a decent chance of staying up. What concerns me is we should have either acted earlier or not at all. It smacks of a panic move and my concerns are we are now even more likely to go down than before. Talk of appointing Roy or getting Shaun Derry in is almost comedy. What a place to leave ourselves in. Not often I have much to say for Watford but one manager is out and one is in the next or same day. It seems we have sacked Vieira without even sounding out a replacement first. You might do that in November but not in the middle of March. Bringing in a temporary manager is a sign of desperation and potentially ruins next season as well. Especially how long it has taken Parish before to appoint a manager over the summer before. Still we will still all be supporting Palace whatever league they are in. And with Palace we are all very lucky to be part of such a great fan base. How many other clubs enjoy the noise we get very often at home, when pretty much the whole stadium are on fire and singing. Its unreal.
