He looks class to me. I have lots of Cov City mates who rate him highly and are desperate to keep him.

My observation is that Southampton have gone down the championship striker route twice in recent years - Adams and Armstrong (who we were strongly linked with) both for c£15m.

Neither has been a great success.

The gap between Champ and Prem is massive.

As we have shown with Guehi, Olise and Eze you really need to buy quality. Easier said than done!

Its a cautionary tail.

Adams was never going to work IMO, he was bang average, but then had 1 great season. ( a bit like Akpom this season)

Armstrong at least a very more high scoring seasons.

Gyokeres would definitely be a gamble, but so are all these moves. At least playing in the national team gives us the opportunity to look at him vs some better opposition.

I hadn’t seen Gypkeres play, but having read the article linked below, it sounds like he’d be a great fit with how we play.
To be honest, having read that, it also left me thinking that he’d be crazy to join another premier league team other than palace. He knows if he comes to us then he’ll play regularly in a system that suits him.

I would rather have Akpom than him. Akpom could play the false 9 role very well and with Olise and Eze in the side if things click he can easily be a 15+ goal a season player.

Think clubs need to be very careful with Akpom.

Sure, he got 29 goals in 38 last year.

The stats for the rest of his career are 47 goals in 268 games. He's 27, his most league goals prior to last year in one season is 8, and that was in the Greek league.

There are many players that have had one good championship season and done nothing else - Matej Vydra, Andre Gray, Ross McCormack, Adam Armstrong are all examples of players with a far better Championship record than Akpom's.

I think we need to give some respect to how hard it is to score goals in the Premier League. The only players that got 15+ last year were Haaland, Kane, Salah, Wilson, Toney, Odegaard, Martinelli, Rashford, Watkins. Not sure anything in Akpom's CV suggests he could do it.

Only reservation is that he's 28. I think the club will go for a younger player with greater sell on value?

Blimey now he was a skilful player. Loved watching him play as a kid.

So, go for him

He has the attributes we seek: Young (24), regular international, good hold-up play, has feints and tricks and can shoot!

Glen Murray Mark Two.

Maybe £40 million but an investment.

If we don't sign him it is a given another PL club soon will!

I really think this guy is mustard and if we could get him for a decent price would be a cracking addition.

£15- £18m though. Let’s not get carried away.

Surely this guy will be a leg up f on our current two. Mateta is on his way so I suppose the very inconsistent Edouard would be a ludicrously expensive back up.

I think so.

But on paper he is a similar cost, with a good scoring record in a lesser league.

I'd still plum for him, looks like he has some of hte key skills that would be useful for us.

Lerma, Gyokeres, and keep Wilf - I'd be very happy with that window
