I've no doubt this point has been made a thousand times, but nonetheless....

It's clear to all that this squad is crying out for investment. It's clear to all that central midfield is probably the area most urgently in need of a refresh.

So it's so incredibly frustrating, that when we do actually invest in players, specifically in central midfield, they don't get picked.

What is the justification? OK, Ahamada is new to the club, new to the country, and inexperienced. But Lokonga has 25 PL appearances. Eze hasn't been great for a while, but Jesus Christ, he hasn't been the fundamental flaw here.

If I was one of the key investors, there's no way I'd scrape any more funds together when Johnstone, Ahamada, Lokonga, Edouard, Ebiowei etc don't get a kick. What is the point? There will never be a return on investment if they don't play.

Today's match is like an example of How Not To Recruit vs How To Recruit.

It would be very Palace to actually get a win. But personally, I don't take any pride from scavenging a result we don't deserve. Some of the results against Brighton in recent years have been cringeworthy when we've barely scraped a shot in the 90 minutes yet still got a point or a win.

Come on Pat. I'm really trying to support you here, but sort out the easy tweaks, dear God. Please. Just do it.

If we don’t pick up their runners in midfield we are going to get smashed in this game. We are being opened up like a hot knife through whatever food substance you care to choose.

For those moaning about the midfield, Hughes has been insanely good so far. Our player of the match by far. Broken up everything, passed it forward only for the donkey up to regularly lose it.

Vieira was probably banking on Odergard and Casemiro
