It's interesting because there's clearly a story here. Parish is rightly big on promoting from within, and I believe when PV was hired having an existing member of the club coaching team was more or less imposed on him so I don't imagine if Derry was fired, it would have been done without a good reason. And if he left voluntarily because he has a manager's job or something else lined up, you'd usually say that; "one of our coaches is moving up the career ladder" is broadly good publicity. So you have to think there's an "adverse" story somewhere in here somewhere. Plus, as I said, Derry has a history of being a man who does things his own way. TBH, on a personal level I'll miss him because I like continuity in the club and I always liked Derry as a player. But I'm inclined to think from a pure coaching standpoint, it's no great loss. And I presume that's how PV feels too, as we haven't had the obligatory press release thanking Derry for his services, and noting how much he'd contributed to the club. Possibly even, we've weeded out a bad apple. What I do think is, as I've said before, things were going stale. We've looked out of sorts for some weeks now. We needed a shake-up and some refreshing...needed it badly...and two new players and presumably a new voice in the coaching team if Derry is going to be replaced is in my view, a good start and no bad thing. I'll be interested to see if we push on and show a little more life over the next few weeks. Is looking like a fall out but who knows? Interesting point on the coaching side - I've no idea who's any good or what we need. I expect PV has contacts.

Must have been Derry who choose the 4-3-3 system with players not compatible for it, Schlupp as a central midfielder and the useless Eze as who knows what. Still, look on the bright side, the new players might give PV the opportunity to play his preferred system correctly.

If I remember correctly when Vieira joined Derry was the under 21 manager and McCarthy took the under 18s.

What I said (in another thread if not this one) was that the combination of two new players and a new coach may well freshen up the room. And beyond that, even if PV himself ultimately chooses the formations, etc., sometimes having a new member of the team brings in fresh ideas, a new head for PV to pick and bounce ideas off, and a new perspective to listen to. It all contributes to the greater good in one way or another. I'm not saying Derry's departure alone amounts to a makeover, but we've been a team in need of reinvigoration for most of this season and to my mind, any change no matter how small is probably a step in the right direction. In a game of fine margins, something we all acknowledge, don't underestimate how much something might matter.

On another thread somebody mentioned a hope that McArthur stays on as a coach with his playing days drawing to a close.

This was a sudden departure, and that alone suggests it was a bust up of some kind. But to echo PatrickA, a statement from the club would put an end to our speculation.

Potential litigation = No statement. The murky world of Constructive Dismissal will be on our leaders mind, if of course there has been a rift.

I don't know anything but - Hopefully a warm statement of departure & appreciation for his efforts, wishing him well for the future has only been delayed because of the clubs wish to focus on incoming players at this time -
