PV is still work in progress.

I think we generally agree that he has been let down in terms of replacing Gallagher and Kouyate.

He’s made mistakes without a doubt.

All managers have their team selections and tactics questioned and criticised by supporters, Vieira is not unique in that respect.

Ultimately it’s a results business, and all things considered we are around about where we can reasonably expect to be .

Calls for him to be sacked I find completely ludicrous

I'm not necessarily defending the persistence with Jeff Schlupp nor any other selection choices, but regarding the team changes v Newcastle, it's perhaps worth bearing in mind that the Newcastle game kicked off just 67 and a half hours after the (very tough) Man U game finished, so maybe a bit of rotation was called for.

I totally agree. It's a shame we don't have world beaters to bring on but that's just the way it is. It's a funny old fixture list this season and it's pretty obviously impacted teams in worse ways than ours. And for people liking PV's subs to Roy's - Vieira does make changes slightly earlier in a game - and on a more regular basis, than Roy. I didn't agree with Roy's subs but a lot of PV's are basically just unavoidable in the wider context of a squad over a season.

Well said. We often fall into the trap of playing 'fantasy football' and forgetting that the manager has to juggle all the things the real world throws his way.

I think the very cynical view is that PV just picked a team nobody wanted to see despite them all being physically fine.

We have United again next, away this time and a break in between. That should tell us more and hopefully we’ll see a team most of us would expect/desire to see.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Agreed- it was very coincidental that Hughes got dropped rather than any of the other players who have played way more games!

My general feeling is that we can't sack PV because there is. no reason to on the face of it. However, I do think we have deteriorated probably from Jan 22 in terms of performances. Thought from August 21-December 22, we played great football, had passion and deserved more points than we got. Since then, I think we are reverting a fair bit to Hodgson style football and the only reason it might look better on occasion is because we have flair players like Eze, Zaha, Olise etc it will always look better.

I think give him until the end of the season, and assuming we haven't gone down, another transfer window and then evaluate in December.

As a club we are progressing in most areas. Academy, style of football, age of players etc

Progression cant be judged game to game, we need to take a bit of a helicopter view on things.

The positives are that we are in a decent position in the league, with a good points buffer over the relegation places.

We've had a difficult spell, but we've stopped the rot, against 2 of hte inform teams in the league. Which shows some resilience and courage in the squad.

Its only natural to want for more, but we're doing ok

Wouldn't disagree with you Mr R.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Well said.

In Potters second season at Brighton, there were a large number of their fans wanting him out.

This time last year, Arteta was being slated by Arsenal fans ( as Martin Tyler mentioned in his commentary yesterday ) who were wanting PV to replace him.

As a club I think we are still in a transitionary period. There's bound to be bumps in the road.

In Potter's 1st season, Brighton finished in 15th place, in his 2nd season in 16th place.
Brighton never defeated us whilst Potter was at the helm.
