Shame not to see Hughes starting but I get the impression, no more than that, that his stamina is not the best. Odd to see Olise on the bench but some rotation is probably necessary to protect our younger creative players. As fans we rarely know who is carrying a slight niggle or who’s energy levels are flagging.

I tend to agree . Its a squad game these days and with 5 subs the starting 11 isnt as important as maybe the players that are on the pitch at the end either trying to get a goal or protecting a lead .

We will see how it plays out but no need to be be critical of that starting eleven

I'm as disappointed as others woth the line-up, but I'm not surprised.
Vieira suggested there would be changes midweek and said the squad would be used.
For example it would have been Clyne's third game in a week and Ward is probably in to counteract Joelinton's height and strength.
I can't explain the decision not to start Hughes though.

I'm going to be generous and suggest Hughes is not quite fit enough, with Wednesday being his first start in the PL this season (I think?). I have to say, with Bruno and Trippier both starting my early optimism has dipped after seeing our team sheet.

Edouard, Eze and Schlupp all need to earn the right to play as all three have been guilty of strolling through games. The first two have the ability, but that's not enough in a game like this. Newcastle are so fit and aggressive every one of our players has to play their socks off or we'll lose.

Hopefully Vieira proves (most of) us wrong and the changes pay off. If we lose I think a lot of questions will be asked.

My point would be, how the f are you supposed to get match fit when you don’t get picked.

I know I’m a bit late to the party but I’ve just seen the team and can’t quite believe my eyes. What the hell is Vieira thinking?

Newcastle clearly done their homework on our weak link... Ward getting torn apart down the right hand side.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Almost looks as if we're playing our third match in 6 days.

They are targeting the right side (Ward)

I’m hopeful that we can weather this Newcastle flurry and start to strong some passes together as at the moment we are not passing well at all.
