As long as we get most of our money back let him go.

And they are not short of a bob or 2, so paying 15m for 2 seasons wont hurt them like it would hurt us.

I agree with you and Plaistow, that neither Ings, or Antonio because of age ,more than other considerations would be ideal for Palace ,real progress. But both are proven and probably available, and in the present market not over expensive .
It’s clear Palace are into young and improving, but in Palaces case that always, as Mateta, and Sorloth, proves comes with the high chance they don’t improve . And if a prospective youngster has actually scored a few goals at a decent level the price goes well beyond what we know Palace can go to .
Considering we didn’t actually replace Benteke, Mateta, , would have to be replaced if Palace give up on him, and considering Palaces lack of fire power maybe an older head is what is needed, possibly with a younger back up.?

Patrick Vieira has recently asserted that the team needs experience and physicality.

I am not entirely sure apropos the outlay on Mateta.
Mn understanding was that there was a loan fee of £2.7 Mill with an obligation to buy after an agreed number of games for £13.5 Mill.
It has been reported that his transfer fee was £10 Mill but this might not include the loan fee.

If these figures are accurate, Mateta has cost us £12.2 million (wages + salary) since joining. Edouard has cost us £17.9m over a period seven months shorter. Moving forward, keeping Mateta is costing us £600,000 a year (in wages) while keeping Edouard is costing us £1.1 million a year. Combined, that's £1.8 million a year in wages for two forwards who at best might give us ten goals a season. I'd say there's a good argument for replacing them with Gordon or Plange whose wages are probably very low in either case, and using the rest of the £1.8 million to attract a really good forward to whom we could pay a decent amount to attract him. Plange or Gordon plus a forward we paid as much as £140k a week would still cost less than Mateta and Edouard combined.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

I think your maths is off: 50k pw x 52 weeks is £2.6 million, while 94k pw x 52 weeks is £4.9 million per year. So if those weekly wages are correct they cost us about £7.5 million a year in wages. Bargain.

His 2nd, 3rd and 4th touches are not much better. I’l be glad to see the back of him.
