Eze? Don't rate him. Can see the natural talent but also everything else that is missing from his game. Maybe he'll flower once Zaha has departed and is given responsibility. At the moment we don't the luxury of waiting for a luxury player to come good and provide a level of consistency in each and every game. He's currently consistent at going missing for long periods, got taken off today, it isn't good enough.

I think we’re a poor side and the club has got way ahead of itself if all this bollocks about the teams of every age group playng the same way is true. Pragmatism is always going to be the way for a club of our resources The criticism of Vieira reminds me of similar during Roy’s last year or so when he was continually criticised for not picking one average player over another average player or an untried youngster. Aside from quality we’re lacking in physicality and height. I only listened on the radio but Pat Nevin commented that he thought Edouard looked out of shape. I suspect further investment in the team ended with the row with Textor regarding Lyon. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (15 Jan 2023 9.15pm) Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (15 Jan 2023 9.16pm)

At times I wonder does PV just play Zaha up top just to prove a point to SP that we have no strikers. Jeff Schlupp is an absolute abortion of a football player and I have no idea how he can keep playing him week after week and not even trying someone else to see if it works out. I have got to to the point were I am dreading these match days. Even our win over Bournemouth was a poor performance yet every week we have PV sounding like David Moyes saying he is happy with the performances. We have been piss poor for 90% of this season and I am fed up watching the same lineups and groundhog day performances week after week. Edited by EddieMac (15 Jan 2023 9.22pm)

Back from Chelsea and had to post What has happened to our squad? Zaha looks frustrated playing right wing… schlupp is just absolute dog s**t too scared to make a forward pass… this playing out from Ok we had a couple of decent chances today but I can’t for the life of me understand why we insist on playing like Man City by trying to pass the ball into the oppositions box… we really need somebody who’s not scared to take a shot like Decoures today! Zaha hasn't played right wing for ages.

We had more points from losing positions than any other team - now if we go a goal down we barely even muster a shot let alone a fightback. The recent performances have been very concerning let alone the results - Forest, Southampton, Spurs, Chelsea couldn't buy a win until playing us. Zaha has totally switched off. Guehi and Mitchell are playing 1 and 3 levels below where they were last season. Hodgson definitely didn't have the resources. Vieira hasn't had untapped resources, but we dropped a level over the summer and we dropped a heck of a lot over the World Cup break. Regardless of the money, the same 11 players just aren't playing anywhere near as well as they were.

True enough but the home wins against Leeds, Wolves and Southampton all felt like they had a huge slice of fortune about them as did the draw away to Leicester. Without doubt several of the younger players don’t look as though they’re improving.

We had the same shots on target as Chelsea so must be doing something right . Their keeper saved them today. More clinical finishing gets us a point at least.

He has bags of ability but we often only get 2 or 3 little cameos a game. Now I'm sure that is much to do with the players around him, but as much as it pains me to say it, If I was in charge I'd put Hughes in over him at the moment.

The only 2 convincing performances this season were against Villa (thanks Gerrard!) and a poor West Ham team.

Eze, like Olise, to a team like us is a luxury player. Great in a team with loads of talent, you can afford for them to go missing or not tackle.

I wonder what role Eze is trying to fulfil under Vieira. Attacking midfielder? I think Eze needs to demand the ball more and not wait for it to come to him, therefore he has to up his workrate. He has the control and the range of pass to bring others into the game. I think he should be more involved in what we try to do. As you mention, it could be the players around him not being on the same wavelength. I'll mention again players who I saw who I think Eze could emulate: Ray Wilkins, Trevor Brooking, Tony Currie. All had a certain skill set and dictated the flow when they were on the ball. They were always in a position to receive the ball and calm under pressure. Further afield Andrea Pirlo has to rate as one of the greatest of the type of player I'm imagining. These players made the game look easy, and so does Eze when he's on it; alas these moments are far too infrequent.

The way Eze is being played he’s receiving the ball with his back to goal and either knocks a safe ball back to a teammate or gets caught in possession or gets outnumbered by opponents. I’m not sure he can operate in a midfield 3 in the Premier League, even with two defensive midfielders, particularly if Zaha and Olise are in the front three.
