I recall the song which started with the words "Aye,aye, aye, aye, Jackson is better than Yashin....."

Deeply saddened by his passing. A true legend if ever there was one.

Oh this is so sad, another of my boyhood heroes gone. The word "legend" is bandied about too often these days but this guy truly was. R.I.P. Jacko.

Just so that the younger fans can understand how good he was, it would be a toss-up of who was the best 'keeper during my time following Palace. Jules, Big Nige or Jacko. All great at their time.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Never had the good fortune of seeing him in a Palace shirt. He was an Orient player by the time I was hit by the affliction. Plenty of people I respect have described him as the best. RIP Jacko

Jackie was a great, great keeper. Should have gone to Mexico in ‘70 ahead of Bonetti, Stepney and West.IMO. And, if he had played against W Germany when Banks was sick who knows what might have happened!? Remember standing behind the goal when he magnificently saved a penalty from Martin Peters soon after Peters had joined Spurs in a then record transfer deal (£200k!) Wrote a letter of disgust when we sold him to Leyton Orient. Received a reply from the club which I still have to this day. I was hugely impressed as an 11-year-old to get a reply even tho’ it didn’t alter the fact that we’d sold by favourite player. As well as being a great shot stopper, I remember him being fearless in coming for crosses and very quick off his line to intercept strikers . He also had a magnificently accurate over arm throw which would often pick out our players in the opposition’s half. Should have been with us for another five seasons. Definitely should be a statue of him at The temple of football. RIP Jacko - a Palace great!

Very sad news. Bill Glazier was my first Palace keeper and I was gutted when he left. But soon got over it. Does anyone remember a short period when he and (Ray?) Millington shared the position? Jacko soon made it his own. I WAS John Jackson many times in Thornton Heath Rec with, literally, jumpers for goal posts and my friend Vincent taking shots. A real hero of mine and a sad day. Condolences to his family. RIP Jacko.

i remember him saving a penalty against Man City not sure if it was Franny Lee or Colin Bell towards the end of one season which more or less meant we stayed up another season.Truly was a Selhurst great
