Edited by Stirlingsays (25 Dec 2022 5.40pm) I am grateful for this reply, familiar though it is. You often resort to assumed superiority and personal insults. It is your standard offering when you know you are in a corner and out of arguments. You are incapable of admitting you are wrong, but it is nevertheless pleasing whenever your posts confirm that you know you are. In the spirit of the season I nonetheless wish you and yours, and indeed anyone else reading this, my best wishes and hopes for a better 2023 than 2022.

I'm merely pointing out what is in front of our noses. A woman standing still in a street, silently praying so no one would be aware that she was praying, is neither objectionable nor intimidating. It is unreasonable and nonsensicle to suggest it is. No you aren't. You were neither there to witness what she did nor inside the head of anyone seeking to use the service. Just the thought that they might encounter anyone as they approach might be enough to intimidate. It has nothing at all with what she, or you, think she is doing. It only has to do with what a potential user might think she is doing. Her right to protest, or pray, is not diminished in any way if that is what she wants to do. The only thing that is diminished is her ability to interfere with the thought processes of others.

So we are to be judged by what someone thinks we are doing rather than what we are actually doing! That is clearly absurd. It is also absurd to say that someone praying silently is interfering with the thought processes of others. Edited by georgenorman (25 Dec 2022 9.54pm)

Edited by georgenorman (25 Dec 2022 9.54pm) Of course people who stand on a street silently aren't intimidating! Who suggested they are? Nor does it matter what others think. It's not the standing, the silence or the thinking. It's the where. It's the context. If they stand where someone is likely to feel intimidated then ensuring they stand somewhere else is a kindness. They can stand and pray elsewhere to their hearts content and there is no risk of anyone feeling intimidated. So who loses? Only they do and then only if their true desire is not to pray, but to intimidate. That this lady, or you, either don't understand, or don't care, is beside the point. Those with the authority to make the regulations do.

Well, in part due to the economic and foreign policy decisions you supported that won't happen. Perhaps it won't be so bad for multiple housing landlords but a lot of vulnerable British people are and will continue to suffer a lower standard of living and income anxiety. Enjoy your Christmas Mr 'One Nation Conservative'. Edited by Stirlingsays (25 Dec 2022 11.36pm)

Enjoy your Christmas Mr 'One Nation Conservative'. Edited by Stirlingsays (25 Dec 2022 11.20pm) We can all hope, even if we don't expect. It springs eternal! I am not without hope because I think we are at a watershed moment in domestic politics which will force a long overdue realignment and PR. What the ultimate shake-down will look like is less clear, but a new direction is needed, one that keeps the minorities represented and engaged but not dominating. The aftermath of the pandemic happening alongside Putin's invasion of Ukraine created the perfect storm for a widespread recession. Exacerbated in our case by the self-inflicted damage of Brexit. People getting hurt in a recession is inevitable. Trying to even it out is the job of government, who won't please all, and probably not many. People want someone to blame, even when most of the harm is beyond anyone's control. I hope that common sense will prevail in Ukraine and a stalemate results in a compromise. I have never thought it likely that China will invade Taiwan, but that they will play the long game. They have other priorities for 2023. The USA's divisions worry me and things could get messy there in a few years from now, but not next year. This is one, of many, reasons why I believe the way the Tories mishandled Brexit was such a disaster. However, we may be able to undo some of the damage in 2023 by sorting out the worst aspects of our "deal". So I do hope 2023 will turn out better than 2022. I am far less confident about the longer term. We seem to be faffing around with our determination to confront climate change and all the implications that the consequences of rising sea levels will bring. Mass movements of people will need to be accommodated on a scale never seen before and pretending we can avoid these ourselves is delusional. That's though not for my generation to face. Our job is to prepare the coming generations to face it, and they are better prepared than past generations to do so. Yes, I am a traditional one nation Conservative, who believes in financial responsibility and living within our means, but blended with a social conscience for the disadvantaged and the vulnerable. I am not unusual at all. Yes, I am a Landlord, but I try to be a responsible one who respects his tenants. It's a better use for my pension fund than just giving it to a Life Assurance Company and buying an annuity which disappears on my death. My wife and family inherit. Should people like me pay more tax? For sure! Enjoy the game. It's been a long break!

As things stand, anyone who pauses or stands near that address if reported by someone will very possibly be arrested for what they are thinking, or what the thought police think their intentions are. That cannot be right.

Now that sir, is very good point. The incident reminds me of the police who descended on the chap who forwarded a tweet from Laurence Fox. or the feminist campaigner who was pursued after attending an event in Brighton where trans activists called a baby a Nazi. Then you look at the police dancing with XR and offering JSO cups of tea. Something has broken

Political choice A WE, 'choice A is the best and right thing to do'. Political choice A results in worsening metrics as those who wanted choice B said it would. WE, 'choice A was inevitable'. Many such cases.

She might believe that. You might agree with her. Neither matters. The law says she can pray about the issue but not where she decided to do it. The law has decided to protect the rights of others from being intimidated. That she and you don't believe that such behaviour is intimidating is irrelevant. It is how such behaviour is perceived which is. Her rights are not being in any way repressed. The rights of others are being protected. Thanks for that simple clarification of the fact that the law is an ass. It means that a woman inside the clinic, or on her way to the clinic, praying for a successful outcome to her abortion procedure would be committing a criminal act.
