Stopped watching year ago because the winners seemed to have no personality at all .
Need to change the name of the program to Sports Person of the Year .
Now with the woke lot it will get worse .

It costs a fortune to put this back slapping festival on as many have to be put up in hotels, travel cost etc.

Ironically the BBC's commitment to live sport each year gets less and less.

I doubt the BBC have the budget to outbid the various Pay Per View providers on live sporting events these days - ( at least not any live sporting events worth seeing) PPV has definitely "come of age" over the last few years.

Probably not in which case why do they spend a fortune on promoting sport that is on other channels? This is a left over from when most sport was on the BBC.

I guess that it allows them to feel that (at least for the moment) they are in some small way still "relevant" to the sporting world -

A few candidates in this from Ian Drury. Personally I'd like to see this as our National Anthem.

This one's for Julie, who we love
I love her almost as I do Alma
But we don't do Alma no more
It's called? England's Glory'. if you wanna sing
Please sing

There are jewels in the crown of England's glory
And every jewel shines a thousand ways

Frankie Howerd, Noël Coward and garden gnomes
Frankie Vaughan, Kenneth Horne, Sherlock Holmes
Monty, Biggles and Old King Cole
In the pink or on the dole
Oliver Twist and Long John Silver
Captain Cook and Nelly Dean
Enid Blyton, Gilbert Harding
Malcolm Sargeant, Graham Greene (Graham Greene)

All the jewels in the crown of England's glory
Too numerous to mention, but a few
And every one could tell a different story
And show old England's glory something new

Nice bit of kipper and Jack the Ripper and Upton Park
Gracie, Cilla, Maxy Miller, Petula Clark
Winkles, Woodbines, Walnut Whips
Vera Lynn and Stafford Cripps
Lady Chatterley, Muffin the Mule
Winston Churchill, Robin Hood
Beatrix Potter, Baden-Powell
Beecham's powders, Yorkshire pud (Yorkshire pud)

With Billy Bunter, Jane Austen
Reg Hampton, George Formby
Billy Fury, Little Titch
Uncle Mac, Mr. Pastry and all
Uncle mac, Mr. Patry and all

Allright england?
G'wan england
Oh england

All the jewels in the crown of England's glory
Too numerous to mention, but a few
And every one could tell a different story
And show old England's glory something new

Somerset Maugham, Top Of The Form with the Boys' Brigade
Mortimer Wheeler, Christine Keeler and the Board of Trade
Henry Cooper, wakey wakey, England's labour
Standard Vanguard, spotted dick, England's workers
England's glory

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

the Wagon Wheel chocolate biscuit/cake.
Used to be about 1" plus in depth & big, now a skinny shadow of itself.
Any classic chocolate bar (Mars, topic, Yorkie etc etc)
shrunk to probably half the size.
basterds.

I blame Putin for the $hite TV we get these days. It seems to be just combinations of the same fourth rate 'personalities' on panel shows.

Two Tone & some of the old Punk stuff. Jeez I was on Youtube a while back & they had some sort of Two Tone festival somewhere & it was absolutely ball clenching to watch people in their late 50s & early 60s dancing to 'One Step Beyond' Etc

Funnily enough I went to The Butcher's Block in Queens yesterday to stock up on a few Items & amongst the stuff I bought I noticed that the Lyle's Golden Syrup tin & the Paxo Stuffing box definitely seemed smaller or are they just smaller because they ship abroad?

they had a ska weekend in Albufeira, portugal, when I was over in October, in this s***e bar in old town.
As many of the old gits were so badly behaved last year, many of the nearby bars / restuarants closed .
A few guys my age looked ok, well dressed in loafers, fred perry etc but the majority & their old boot wives looked a mess.

Which they never handled particularly well.

The test cricket used to be on the BBC but it always had to play second fiddle to horse racing and it was a relief to all cricket fans when they lost the rights to cricket to Channel 4 who subsequently lost it to the much deeper pockets of Sky.

They do have certain rights to the dreadful Hundred and end up covering the same matches that Sky are covering. I always watch on Sky as i can't abide that awful Phil Tufnell who has made a lucrative career out of being stupid

But they did have Richie Benaud.
