They were good, and it was much better than the traditional shaky start. However, the defence will need to sharpen up against better opposition. I thought the defending looked quite shaky today. At least there were a right back and a left back in natural positions. That's a start. Definitely gave England width. Probably need to link Central midfield to defence and attack better in order to tighten up.

I have to say that that was one of the best England performances that I have seen in a long time.......
Have now watched my recording of the game and, whilst I agree England looked good becky, was it more down to how poor Iran were? I'm reserving judgement until we face tougher opposition.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Great performance from England it's been a long time since I saw that at a WC. 5 players got the monkey off their back and scored their first WC goals. Iran are a top 20 side so no mugs, but it was our day. The negatives, I agree about our defending, we were fortunate that Iran couldn't capitalise on some pretty sorry stuff, do that against France and we will suffer. VAR was rubbish the foul on Maguire was a clear penalty whilst theirs was dubious to say the least.

England's best player Sako followed closely by Bellingham. Iran's best player was Parka De Bus.

I have time on my hands these days so much as I don't agree with this World Cup, I'll probably end up watching more than I would have done if I was still working. I hope England do well, but don't see them winning it. I want the USA to do well as that is where I was born, but I'm not expecting too much from them. I'd like to see Argentina win it ( if the above don't ), for Messi's sake. @ Nicholas - where are you watching it in Rainham ? I lived there back in the late 70's Hi mate - I notice the USA are managed by a former Palace player Greg Berhalter.

England game was like a Premier League club Vs a League One side. Wales v USA is like two League Two sides huffing and puffing but ultimately, not being any good.
