Am thinking of the gymnast who failed to wear correct islamic dress for the medal ceremony. It appears to me that correct female dress is not a requirement during the activity, but only after the event. We will have to wait and see.

Does anyone actually care about this world cup. Rather than being a celebration of football at the end of the season, it's a PR campaign by a corrupt regime in a corrupt regime. Personally I couldn't give a toss Yup. Totally not got any feel for it.

A simple solution (if you have money) is to set up camp in either Dubai or Bahrain or Oman ( Dubai is probably best because they have the Doha express flight out of the relatively new airport just out past Jebel Ali which after a 45 minute flight has a fast track service through Doha immigration, then just fly up for the games that you are interested in & back afterwards - last time I used it the Doha express was in service about 8 times a day so no bother getting a flight time to suit you. If anyone is considering going & wants a local heads up about anything to do with the region to help them make plans feel free to DM me - I am a bit out of touch as I have been out of the region since 2018 but I lived in Dubai for some 20 years & travelled the region freely so in general my local knowledge will hold good -

I just saw on the telly that when the Wales team first arrived somewhere (their hotel, I think), they were greeted by a large crowd of 'volunteers' pretending to be fans. Also there were 6 genuine Welsh people/fans, except they were kept at a distance from the players "for security reasons" so they couldn't interact with them at all, whereas the fake fans were just a couple of feet away from Hennessey and co.

Some games will inevitably be less popular & the prospect of half empty stadiums will be difficult to overcome.

In all honesty this is probably just about the worst possible time to be holding a major tournament in a contentious destination - The world is still reeling from the effects of Covid / lockdown / Brexit / Ukraine / economic meltdown etc, so a good many of those who may have considered going (during more prosperous, less challenging times) will inevitably fall by the wayside -
