I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy! I'd play whoever can afford to play (which in my very humble opinion should be all of them). Understand and accept those suggesting a second XI however I'd like to see something like: GK: Johnstone RB: Ward DM: Luka RW: Ebiowei I think that'd be a fair shout with a few subs thrown in for the non-regulars (Tommo, Jairo, Hughes et al)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I think as a club the first priority is the league. We are on a good run with an important game on Saturday and if win against Forest it will go along way to making sure we remain in the league for another year. I think if we were drawn at home to Newcastle on Tuesday and had say Forest at home on Sunday we could have put out a near full strength team but with the travel and short turn around we need to rest our first eleven

Ahh, the memories, one of the best bits was when Southall refused to go up and get his loser’s medal and what was that funny tournament at Wembley where you only played 45mins, only Palace fans there Attachment: 851A3F27-EF3C-4E2B-97EA-0C7920406E96.jpeg (2,756.70Kb)

We just got in to the tournament ahead of Millwall.

The matches were shorter than 45 minutes, Millwall DID qualify and if I recall correctly we lost our one and only game on penalties after a 0-0 - I think to Sheffield Wednesday.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Also ... the ZDS was in fact the Full Members' Cup (just like the Carabao Cup is the League Cup).

Alright lads, Geordie in peace here, Eddie says he's going to take the cups seriously so while there may be a couple of changes (Wilson looks like he'll miss out due to illness) but it should still be a strong side. We've a few key players who're likely off to the World Cup; Bruno, Wilson, Trippier e.g. so I do wonder if they'll be protected? Will Vieira ring the changes or will he name the usual first 11? How many of your lads are off to Qatar? For any of you heading up for the match tomorrow, I've got plenty of pub recommendations. There are no 'away' pubs and you'll be welcomed in all of the 100 or so pubs within walking distance of the ground. Probably won't get in the Strawberry because it'll be packed. Rosies, Tilleys, Town Wall, the Forth, all en route from the train station. Mile Castle is huge and kind of on your way. If you're driving up I'd recommend parking at the Metro Centre and getting the short train across. Free, CCTV-ed parking in a shopping centre with all the food options you'd expect from something like that.

Welcome Fish - & for those travelling up, many thanks for the heads up on beer, food & parking - On the cup side - we are sitting in the League with 19 points from 13 games & given that we had played so many of the bigger teams I think overall we are pleased if not a tad surprised to find ourselves with so many points, also we have an away game against forest at the weekend where we would hope to get something, so to be going into the WC break with 20 / 22 points we would be pretty pleased with ourselves & I dont think our desire to go further in the cup will be allowed to interfere with the League prospects - This factor I believe will shape our team selection -Obvs I am not PV so its only my opinion - I expect to see a few big names in our team but several others rested & the balance made up of some periphery players & academy hopefuls - that dosent mean we will just roll over but ultimately I think Newcastle will prove too strong for us on a cold wet windy night up North.

I’ve been to quite a few away matches this season, but can’t make tomorrow’s game. I understand the need to rotate/rest players - but after Saturday, there is a 6 week break coming up! Also, remember the fans who are making the effort to travel and support the team from the stands. I know they would appreciate PV putting out a strong team. It makes the journey worthwhile!
