Until the reaction of the Left to both Brexit and then Trump, I would have fully agreed with you.

But then, because the Left did not like either result, they tried everything to overturn both. And as a consequence, the acceptance of 'Liberal Democracy' as a common denominator is now over.

Personally, my hope is that nations can effectively have peaceful secessions so that the Right and the Left can go their separate ways. And I suspect the Right would be more than happy to divide but the Left will not let it happen.

Hence there will be increasing conflict. There is no more common ground. Somehow we need to be able to effectively live apart.

You seem to be using your view of legal procedures that happened here during Brexit (as underhand as such politics can get) as way of saying that you don't particularly care who won the vote in Brexit and are happy with attempts to overthrow it anyway. Fair enough. This is more personal narrative to get to an endpoint you want than external conencted events really. We could just as well use 6th January as a reference point. Or anything.

The whatever gets me what I want mindset is the beckoning finger to places I doubt either of us would want to go, so I tend to just hope for peace and a level of stability in an uncertain world. That and focusing on things within my control. Life isn't all bad.

You mean apart for up ending every Parliamentary convention for the last couple of hundred years, numerous court cases and getting the official opposition party to champion a second vote with Remain as an option? LOL.

Call me every name under the sun you want. Dismiss what I am posting about Brazil as hysteria. Mock my claims about liberal democracy not being worth a fig anymore as pure hyperbole. Not a single problem with any of that.

But please don't insult my, and millions of other voters, intelligence, by trying to claim that the Progressive Left did not try everything to get the Brexit vote over turned. You make yourself look like a fool.

Own that.

All legal ways of championing their case, or opposition to the Brexit outcome. Through the courts.

When that was exhausted, it was carry on.

When the court cases went against them, there were no cries of' It was illegally stolen' and then a storming of Parliament, with weapons, no deaths.

Come on, don't insult my, and millions of other voters, by trying to draw a complete comparison. You make yourself look like a deluded fool, Matov.

But why would you champion a cause that was lost in a binary referendum? Or oppose the outcome of what was the single biggest exercise in pure democracy this country had ever seen? Huge turn-out, every vote equally weighted, no claims of any voter fraud.

Bloody hell, you even had a Government actively pushing for a Remain vote extending the registration period for voters because they felt it would benefit their side. The Remain side was offered every advantage possible and lost. Fair and square.

If you hold the value of democracy in such high stead, why on earth would you do anything to prevent that result being acted upon? What does that make the people trying to do such a thing?

For me, it makes them utter scum. Your view?

There were plenty of cries about Brexit being dishonesty obtained via lies.....though anyone who looks into what happened saw that both sides did whatever they could so to me that was sour grapes.

Storming of parliament with weapons? Is that what is happening in Brazil? Blimey.

Haven't been following it.

Well, although I take your point that it was not received well by remainers, they felt they may have had a legal case in questioning the result so they pursued it: well within their rights to do so through the courts, even if that may seem churlish and sticks in your throat.

Since the legal challenge failed to get the desired result, I would say that most citizens have just 'got on with it' (typically British lol).

I do think your reaction of referring to them as 'scum' is totally OTT and such comments only help to raise the temperature over what is, essentially, a difference of opinion.

It may surprise you to hear that I voted Brexit myself. There's no way I would refer to remainers as 'scum'. I quite understand many of the reasons why they wanted to stay in and, indeed, how jacked off they were to lose the vote.

We need to desist, I feel, from 'scum' like comments over this issue.

The Daily Mail reports that police officers were beaten with sticks and CNN writes this:

The floor of the Congress building was flooded after the sprinkler system activated when protesters attempted to set fire to the carpet, according to CNN Brasil. Additional videos showed protesters inside the building taking gifts received from international delegations and destroying artwork.

Brazil’s Presidential Communications Minister Paulo Pimenta described how there was blood, feces and urine found in the palace rooms. “Onlookers said they seemed beside themselves with hate, like a horde of zombies. They were running down hallways, smashing things, urinating, defecating in the corridors and in the rooms on one destruction spree,”

Not quite the armed/militia - style force of their armed US capitol comrades but a very bad copycat event.

The anger for me and I suspect many Brexiteers is against those hypocrite MPs who blocked the legislation, thankfully the vast majority of them quit at the next GE or were slung out on their ears.

I had no problem with those MPs who in the Mrs May GE stood on a platform to defeat Brexit it was the scum that said they supported the result and then did everything they could to undermine it and democracy.

Sounds like the BLM riots that were cheered on by the looney lefties

Let's remind everyone.

No shots were fired from protestors/rioters/insurgents/angel dust fairies, whatever slant someone wants to put from it.

The same can't be said for the 18 months of rioting in cities by their activists that the same 'so shocked' Democrats fostered, encouraged and pardoned.

The one shot what was fired at someone on January 6th (a day apparently worse than Peal Harbour) was by the security service at a woman posing zero threat.....the officer being whitewashed and cleared of her death by his political protectors.

It looks like you agree with the Capitol storming, like it was ok, justified, Stirling.

I'm amazed tbh. But maybe not, when I think about it lol.

It appears that you're laughing out loud at your own imagination.

Funny how a 'storming' occurs with some opened doors and most of the people wandering in, but never mind.

No, a protest outside was fine, anything else was dumb and playing into the Democrat's hands.
