It is...a chance to show that the history and heritage of these islands are more important than anything or anyone Well, yes, and last time I looked football was also a pretty significant part of the history and heritage of these islands so quite how shutting it down achieves anything at all rather eludes me. All you're doing is denying the various different aspects of our history and heritage the chance to acknowledge in their own unique ways the Queen's passing and denying them an opportunity to pay their respects. The most important thing at a time of death is not to stop life from going on, but to continue it with an added measure of dignity and gratitude. We have been denied that. As I said before, this is the football authorities - as usual - playing to the crowd rather than taking an appropriate and measured decision.

.... The postponement of games this weekend is nothing more than yet another sickening example of people's modern-day desire to bathe in the spotlight of a major event; to somehow make ourselves central to a narrative which is entirely unrelated to what we are doing. By postponing football a statement is being made about football, not about the death of the Queen. .. . The social media era has bred so much gratuitous corporate virtue signalling that it's now almost impossible to distinguish genuine sentiment.

I’m in two minds about this for one reason postponing football. It is a major time for this country and a chance to show that the history and heritage of these islands are more important than anything or anyone, especially those who detest their own, and for that reason I can accept it. You know the weekend would be ruined by the behaviour of a self obsessed footballer. A counter argument for you Rudi: It is exactly this type of hollow gesture that woke, virtue signaling, positively discriminating, anti-competence organisations cloak themselves in to avoid detection.

Everything is about ME and very little else. Today has been as bad as it gets. Self-aggrandizement masquerading as dignity; pretty much everything the Queen didn't stand for.

Just been told cricket is on at the Oval, how come, my brother is going I think in the immediate wake of the announcement of the Queen's death and given that the Prince of Wales is the patron of Surrey (and, therefore, it's home where the Test Match is being played) it was reasonable to suspend the next day's play, today. But suspending play on Saturday, two days later, would make no sense at all. Life goes on and the fact that it does is not a barrier to showing respect (a fact entirely lost on the football authorities).

Just maybe the fact that the weed cancelled next week as well is clouding our judgement !

Can you imagine what will happen if we get a really bad winter with loads of postponements? The authorities will have an absolute nightmare trying to find ways to fit all the games in.

Three pages in and “woke” appears. I guess it had to happen.
