If he's staying great, if not they can potentially look at bringing someone in in January to begin the transition. If he really is determined to try and win trophies (he's said in the past he wants something to show his kids) then he will go as the best we can hope for is the outside chance of winning a domestic cup. The investment this summer shows we are long way off the competition however good our coaching team may be. However, if he decides he's happy and settled with us then I hope he signs a deal quickly and we can move on. I really hope his performance at Newcastle wasn't a sign of him being frustrated at not moving this summer as we need him to be at his best. I feel the treatment he received from Newcastle did him, again the officials did very little to protect him, Ayew and Eze were constantly stopped illegally.

I hope he stays. As a free agent he will be be snapped up by a bigger club than Palace but how much bigger and will he just be a bench warmer. Apparently Arsenal are after him but apart from their derisory offer a couple of season back they seem content to pick him up on a free. Hardly a ringing endorsement that they see him as a first choice player. If you believe the gossip that about sums up Spurs and Chelsea as well. The reality is that none of the big clubs have made a serious effort to sign him so that should be a warning to him. Edited by Badger11 (09 Sep 2022 9.10am)

He became frustrated waiting for his England call up and opted to join Ivory Coast - were they actions he might have regretted?

This is really the last chance saloon for him to play European football etc. He will be gone at the end of the season. What worries me is that he signs a pre contract in Jan and the rest of the season he isn't 100% focused. Doesn't help us at all. It's basically the same scenario as back in whatever year it was he signed for Man U and was loaned back.

If he wants to stay in the premier league then he will (formally at least) have to wait until his current contract expires before signing with someone else. He might get tapped up by an EPL club whilst still playing for us of course (and pull out of every challenge to keep himself safe from harm therefore), but for that to happen he'd have to trust that Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal or whoever will hold true to their word and sign him in June, despite his performance level dropping. It's perhaps just as likely that he will play his heart out as the season draws to a close so as to attract as much interest as possible.

Why would he want to go anywhere else and warm the bench? To actually win something. Why has he not attracted offers in the last window? Maybe we wanted too much. As a free agent aged around 30 he will get plenty of offers. He might love the club but doubt he will want to end a great career with nothing to show for it. For us is he worth enough to let him see out his contract or do we flog him for whatever we can get in January. To my mind we need to learn to play without him.

Wilf is a family man. Could play a part in him not going to save uprooting family if Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, even West Ham didn't offer him a new deal. At least ManUre would not get 25% from a sale.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |

All reports saying he won't sign - whilst that's not definitive, we need a replacement in January and to stop any reliance on Wilf. We have to get Olise and Ebowei up to speed for a start. A bonus would be if Plange develops, but it seems a stretch that Molenbeek would be anywhere near the standard of Derby. I'm guessing we'll eventually buy Sarr - which, frankly, seems pretty underwhelming.

he is on 91 competitive goals for palace. I would love him to get to 100 before he goes!

In his position, I cannot see why he would sign a Palace contract at this stage, even if he ultimately did. Surely he's at least going to see what offers come in from overseas in January, and no doubt shenanigans go on behind closed doors of English clubs around that time too, so he will 'hypothetically' know what's offer in terms of finances and Champions League opportunity. Knowing what I assume I know about him as a person, I think he'd want an offer from Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham. Chelsea would have been perfect, but obviously a lot has changed there, so who knows if they're still interested. Todd Boehly seems to be a stats-driven guy, as is Potter and his recruitment guy that's followed him to Stamford Bridge. I'm sure Zaha ranks highly for a lot of performance indicators in the PL, so it just depends if they fit the strategy that Chelsea would want. Unfortunately for us, I think the London-based Champions League sides basically have first refusal. I doubt it's about money. He'll get that whatever he does. I'd be gutted to see him go. A couple of years ago, I was indifferent, as he seemed stagnant and frustrated under Hodgson, and we would at least have got a load of money. Now I genuinely feel he can have the best 18/24 months of his career with us. I wouldn't begrudge him leaving, and would wish him all the best. He deserves a European adventure and some glory moments. The reality is, he's not had genuine glory since that play off semi versus Brighton. In principle, he could have some great times with us, even without a trophy. Unfortunately, the squad rebuild has lost momentum, just as he is hitting a career peak in terms of output. Factors like a tough fixture list, followed by game cancellations and a random World Cup, leave us in a potentially low league position around Christmas. And even if it's a false one compared to where we ultimately finish, it's not going to look great from his perspective, especially if Chelsea and Arsenal are on the phone. It's not just about the contract we offer. Other players in the squad need to step up and show they're elite level too, so that his efforts make him feel like we're actually moving forward.

As much as I love wilf from an unselfish point of view I wish he moved on 2/3 years ago! And played european football and won some sort of domestic trophy! its the very least he deserves. As soon as he leaves / retires we will be back to the championship! we all know this. Rubbish, people like you have always put way way too much faith in Zaha. He's just one player. We'll miss him if he leaves, for a while, but we'll be alright without him if it comes to that.
