Potter is clearly a great coach but sometimes with the big clubs it's also just as important to be able to manage big players and their egos. If they're looking for quick results they might be better off with someone else, but if they can afford to be patient then I think Potter would be great for them. With their outlay I'm not sure they can be patient though.

If Potter did leave Brighton who would they go for? Scott Parker maybe?

I thought this was one of those joke posts until I checked Sky Sports. Was he really that bad? Personally, I reckon he did well to manage through the Roman sanctioning etc. All this does is demonstrate how fragile the job of a PL football manager is, despite trying to buy success.

The big question, of course is, what will Conor do now? Be interesting to see who will be his new boss and whether he is in or out of favour.

It'll probably be another case of a new manager coming in and wanting to assess all his options... so kind of back to square one/a fresh start for Conor.

Having said that, I doubt a new manager cares whether the players in the 25 squad have just been signed within the past few weeks or not. So could be awkward if you've just moved to a new club and/or Country and the guy who (presumably) agreed to the signing is not longer there.

So for example, a new guy might strongly prefer Chilwell over Cucurella, who's then largely surplus...

....unless of course the new guy already knows Cucurella!

Kind of feel bad for Brighton. I mean, obviously I don't - but in principle I do. And Ajax (although I'm aware that Ajax, like Bayern, are now just the most enormous fish in their own domestic pond that they no longer have competition on their own turf). And whoever else vaguely did well for 18months. It's s*** that a club can really build itself strong foundations, largely organically and with sensible investment. Then other 'bigger' clubs who are in turmoil, just come over and are like, "We're in a mess, but we have money. We'll take you. And you. And you. And you" recruiting people like Angelina Jolie in an African orphanage. The best chance we had of catching Brighton was for them to get too good for their station and then they implode through success! The trick is to be so gradual that no one notices your players are any good.

I don't think they'd be looking at him - personally. Off the top of my head, I'm struggling to think of who. I've obviously forgotten some people. There always Poch, Mourinho's enjoying a bit of a come back at Roma, Potter is perhaps an outsider but not impossible, Klopp? Would he leave? Perhaps, not exactly brilliant this season. Arteta? Probably not, doing too well - not Pep - who else is big in other countries? Herr Flick? I've definitely missed a few.
Vieira would be a bit down the list at present - in my opinion. I'll say Flick just to say someone. Bookies are probably the best way to see who they fancy.

Just off the back of that ASCPFC, I have a musing I'd like to share:

The somewhat inability to name a list of managers obvious for the job is interesting and one I would completely understand.

I have felt in recent times the era of the 'wonder manager' has been somewhat in decline. I'd suggest (of my own theory) that this is down to the sheer money involved these days and therefore the concentration on players and other aspects of football becoming far more intense.

It's almost as if the footballing success blueprint has been reduced to 'Pump money in to buy the best players, big(-ger) ground, drum up social media and commercial interest' etc etc and everything should fall into place with ultimate responsibility being on the manager, who'll we'll just sack if he doesn't deliver the world.

This is at the highest level of course. I suspect the likes of us still operate closer (likes of Potter, Howe, PV and co. don't go unnoticed) but yet not far unremoved from the new model.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I would have thought Pottechino, but hope its Potter, unless they go for Thomas Frank who i think is a very good manager.

Thomas Frank was Dean Smith's deputy. When Smith departed to be manager of A.Villa, Frank was appointed manager of Brentford with the team in 7th place after 12 league games.
Frank lost 8 out of his first 10 games in charge but the Brentford board never panicked and 'Pulled the trigger' and the rest is history.

I suspect they have already got a fair idea, as Potter was always going to be in demand. They may well dip into the Championship again or even the manager of Uncle Tony’s Belgian club

Perhaps they have got their eye on Brendan Rodgers.

Not that I really care what Chelsea do, but seems to be crazy timing. I presume Tuchel was involved in player acquisition / transfer strategy. So a few days after the window closes having spent $250mil, you sack the guy who you task to manage that group of players. Maybe Tuchel wasn't involved and its the board running the show. Either way, that doesn't sound healthy.

Whoever they bring in now as manager can only work with the players they've got. Bad attitudes under Tuchel, and same bad attitudes under the next manager. And like Everton, I feel they have lots of expensive flops.

Gallagher seems destined to warm the bench. When he misses out on a WC spot, I hope he has some seconds of regret about not moving to CP, as he counts his stacks of cash.
