We are destined for a tough season, no doubt about it. Some of the performances from teams that we might think would be pushovers were awesome at the weekend and I include Brighton in that. Fulham will be a real handful and Bournemouth too, both just up from the Championship. Forest were the only team that looked flaky and if we don't end up above them we'll be in big trouble. Of course, it's all too early to form any real measure, but aside from Forest I think we'll end up higher than Brentford and hope Everton, who I've really taken a strong dislike to after last season, are below us. Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I was at a local match on Saturday and seated near me were a group of three gentleman of a certain vintage who had allegiances towards Brighton. These chaps were discussing our game against Arsenal and not one derided our club or were critical in any shape or form. Had they gallivanted down this path, I would certainly have interjected, tonsils leaving their moorings, coils of smoke rising from my head. They seemed very pleasant human beings. Edited by Willo (08 Aug 2022 10.34am) Human beings is a bit much.

We didn't look great against Arsenal albeit the result could have been different and there wouldn't have been too many complaints.

I stand buy my OP unless Newcastle spend big, BET365 have us down to finish 12th, only 2.75 to 1 to finish in top ten, last year we were 11 to 1,
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I would throw west ham and Brighton in there as well. We showed a great deal of promise against the arse. I suppose we will see once we play the teams we should be beating. Far too many draws last season.

Even Tony Cascarino in The Times, not our biggest supporter, thinks we'll finish 9th, mainly because we 'don't give much away at the back'.

We started last season a bit shakily being well beaten by Chelsea away 0-3, and then being held 0-0 at home to Brentford. We have some tough games coming up but if we can beat Villa and Brentford in the home games then that would provide a springboard for us. If we can't then I would start worrying (unless of course we were to spring surprise wins over Liverpool and Man City!)
