There can only be two outcomes here: 1) The management think the existing forward line is fine and no replacements needed. I think a Zaha/Mateta/Edouard injury leaves us looking really exposed. 2) We are bringing someone else in, have identified this is the right window, and that transfer is already in progress. Given there was only a year left on his contract, if we have let him go on a free then it does feel a little risky unless that second scenario is going to play out.

Talk is that he was let go on a `we get some money each time he scores` kind of deal. If so, with DC United being able to cover his wage demands I think it makes sense. I think he will score in the MLS so we get some cash for that plus the savings on his wages. With regards to 2) I have a hunch it will be Matheus Nascimento, with the Texter link and we have not got anyone on loan yet I can see him coming in with no pressure.

There’s no doubt theres a player in there somewhere - really hope it works out for him - all the best Tekkers and thanks for what/all you have done for us..!! COYP Absolutely agree, it was Roy that whacked Benteke’s career. Such is life though, eh.

This deal makes sense for the Americans. After BLM they need a few more statues. On a serious note I think Benteke's style of play is unfortunately outdated, a modern forward is expected to be mobile and to work hard. We have never played to his strengths and I doubt any other PL club would. Good luck CB.
