Half time . 1-0 to Palace Eze wonder goal, everyone looking pretty sharp has to be said . weidweld lost a few pound and is a bit sharper than ive seen in ages, Tompkins looking very sharp also. Plange very good also . Ferguson looking like a new signing and our new signing CD looking like he has played for Palace for years .Good match so so , Benteke is actually running and tackling , must be lookin for another extension to his contract.

I notice you didn’t say Benteke looked sharp though, I didn’t see the game, but I would’ve seriously doubted your contribution if you had

Doucoure looks very strong, and can pass. Significant upgrade on Kouyate.

Benteke as sh1t as ever. Hopefully Wolves will buy him.

Ferguson looked very good at centre back, although I thought we bought him as a right back. James Tompkins is most definitely not a right back.

Won 3-0 and a bunch on complaints about how the midfield is not good enough and Doucoure is not as good as you thought , oh dear.

Points of note for me from the game,
- Ferguson played central defender in the first half with Tomkins at right back
- Doucoure played the first half as the deepest midfielder but in the second half moved to take Ferguson's position in central defence
- Zaha played well and showed some good skill throughout
- It was my first live view of Ferguson, Plange and Doucore. While it's difficult to make an assessment from a friendly Doucoure didn't appear to be the physical powerhouse I was (perhaps incorrectly) expecting.
He keeps his position and plays simple passes, but likes time on the ball which he may not get in the Premier League.
The first half midfield of Eze, Schlupp and Doucoure would not be a first choice for me in the Premier League and we lacked the power, energy and physicality that Kouyate, Mcarthur and Gallagher between them bring.

I thought our midfield play improved in the second half today with the addition of McArthur and Hughes.
It will be interesting to see the lineup v Montpelier when the other players return.

Overall the squad is looking good and there are likely to be one or two additions.

Won 3-0 and a bunch on complaints about how the midfield is not good enough and Doucoure is not as good as you thought , oh dear.

I didn’t say Doucoure wasn’t good enough.
I said he wasn’t the physical powerhouse that I expected , but acknowledged that could have been my mistake in terms of expectation.
The point I was making about the midfield is that in the first half it did not look balanced and that it improved after McArthur and Hughes came on.
I like Schlupp and he had a decent game with some excellent runs, but I don’t think he’s a central midfield player.
Just my opinion having watched the game live and this is supposed to be a forum for opinions.

On this showing he might have a future in the PL, although I would have thought Wolves would be a bit unlikely = more likely a promoted club. He didn't do himself any favours by both getting offside and then making a complete hash of the shot, but he did lay the ball off perfectly for Zaha's goal and earn the penalty

I, too, watched it live (on Palace TV) and basically agree with your assessment of our midfield, although I thought Doucoure did a good job of breaking up play without having to be very physical. He seemed to read the game well and so was generally well placed to break-up play through timely tackles and interceptions. He was possibly a bit too deep first half which encouraged QPR to come on to us further into our half than was comfortable at times.

Just my opinion.

Schlupp was like Messi yesterday running through QPR like they weren't there - someone must have given him an extra Weetabix! Eze looking better and better as the games go by. Wilf continuing the trend of one minute carelessly giving the ball away, the next minute smashing it in the net. Ferguson has good feet, but a few times took risks which is not what you want to see in your own area. Doucoure looks quality, although he did get caught on the ball once, but I think he'll learn quickly as he's no slouch. Bentenke worked hard, got another assist and his hold up and link up play was much better than Mateta's has been, but sadly for him and us he still falls apart inside the penalty area.

One thing I will say having watched all the preseason friendlies is that despite some promise none of the U23s/U18s have stood out to the extent that I think they'll play more than a minor role next season. Ebiowei and Plange look way ahead of them, even Rak-Sakyi, who I think will go out on loan as despite some neat play struggled to make an impact. Some like Tayo and O'Brien look full of promise though, while Whitworth's kicking yesterday was top class (shame he's about 4 feet tall).

Impressed with super slim Jairo and Ferguson they have been rather forgotten and injured.

All played well, I have reservations about the back line without Kouyate's height/experience and the terrier-like qualities of Connor.

As ever it's about Wilf up front.
