We could get around that by a season long loan with an option to buy when his contract runs out .
If he goes to Chelsea this window it has to be a sale or there has to be an extension to his contract with us and then an option to buy in the loan agreement

If Wilf has made it clear he won’t sign an extension then we should do it! On the face of it we lose him for nothing next summer and if we sell him now we owe United 25% of any fee! We swap him for CHO we get a 21 year old that not long ago was in the England squad and wanted by Bayern Munich and who is still wanted by Dortmund! If it’s a straight swap then get it done! If we can get Gallagher for another year as part of the deal even better!

I can't see a Zaha / HO swap coming off. Although that could be wishful thinking on my part. I'm sure Chelsea's valuation of HO will be well in excess of Wilfs valuation. And I'm pretty sure that HO will think he can do better than move to us.

Sounds like the worst swap deal in footballing history to me. If Zaha should depart we will have lost our top scorer of last season, and he was 2nd top scorer in the previous 5 seasons.

I am a big Wilf fan and acknowledge he is by far our best, most productive player. That being said…a straight swap with Gallagher would be represent great business for us. Gallagher is already worth £30-£40m and would only increase in value with another season as a regular starter. We know Wilf only has 1 season left with us with little sell on value due to his contract situation and the Utd sell on clause. If you take all emotion out of the decision then it just makes business sense. Don’t want HO anywhere near the deal. Complete pony of a player with a terrible attitude.

If we get Connor (see my longer post in the other thread) which I think is certainly possible but far from certain in exchange for Wilf, WE'LL be paying Chelsea. It won't be a straight swap for Wilf. As you noted, Connor will probably be valued at £35-£40 million. Wilf right now will fetch £25-£30 million in the last year of his contract. So it'd be Connor for Wilf and £10 million or so quid.

If... IF!!, we were to swap Wilf + (say) £10mil for Gallagher, I'd be the first in line to wave my handkerchief with tears streaming down my face as Wilf drives away however as Mathers said, it would be good business for us. I'd then also like to see a left sided winger come in, a decent one who'll do straight into starting XI. There could be a variety of deals thrashed out I believe: - Straight swap WZ for CG with a bit if money thrown in
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

To be honest, if Chelsea is serious about wanting Wilf they have endless component parts that might appeal to us to help the deal along: Gallagher, RLC, Hudson Odoi, even Broja might be of interest. And probably others, too. Like I said, if Wilf is intent on going to Chelsea it should be a fairly easy deal to put together given the multiple desirable options available to both sides. I really do think something will happen before the end of the window and possibly sooner than that. The fact that there isn't a lot of noise in the press right now suggests something is being worked out.
