Thanks a million for your response. Really insightful. Almost become fun, in a bizarre way, to study the adverts by way of seeing just how far they are willing to stretch this nonsense.

Now I wish I could link to it, and am beginning to wonder if it was in fact a product of almost wishful thinking on my part but I am sure I once saw an Argos Xmas ad that had the standard black family with a white, dwarf, girlfriend.

Made me grin from ear to ear.

I'm genuinely on the look out for a "diverse" version of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs appearing somewhere soon, if it hasn't already. The very name Snow White will obviously be offensive to some, and quite how the all male, white, same height dwarves have survived for so long is incredible.

The only one that would be allowed to remain straight and white would be Dopey.

I've noticed on TV adverts that about 50% of the people now appearing are black.

A couple of points worth considering

a) only 3% of our population are black i.e. of Afro Caribbean origin

b) 2% of the UK population is of pakistani origin, and 2.5% is of Indian origin, and yet these ethnic groups get nowhere near the same representation in TV advertising as the black population.

There doesn't appear to be any proportionality.
