Yes I tend to agree with that statement, A few years ago me & a friend were working in Winchester & the contractor bumped both our wages, I was quite willing to shrug my shoulders & put it all down to being 'just one of those things' my friend had other ideas & was adamant we should take him to the small claims court & so we did. That was very much the impression I was given! Nice use of language/imagery there too
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Mine was during one of the Covid lockdown periods so inevitably there was a backlog at the courts to consider, hence the 9 months from receipt of the final paperwork, I have no idea if the situation at the courts has improved or worsened since then. Originally posted by AERO

I know this example relates to criminal cases however in February I did jury service on 2 trials. 1 was 4 years old the other 2. They have massive backlogs I am surprised that they haven't tried to clear them with a one off deal e.g. if you agree to plead guilty you will get the minimum sentence. A large number of the trials never happened at court the defendant changed their plea so we were not required. They could have done that months / years ago.

It is very straightforward. The process is set out in simple terms by the court (who cannot advise you on your case but can on process if you get stuck). You pay an issue fee which you get back if you win; but probably no more costs (so DO NOT instruct lawyers). The hearing is you sat round a table with the other side and a district judge and you just chat through the case and defence. It is very informal. If the other side are represented, the judge should ensure you are protected and things are explained to you. The only issue may be the courts. They have halved in numbers and the surviving ones have faced severe cuts on top of that. Forgive them for their glacial pace, losing stuff and you turning up to the hearing that they forgot to tell you was vacated as there was no available judge.
