Does anyone seriously care what Newcastle fans think? If you think it's alright that Saudi Arabia own your team then you're really not someone with enough intelligence to pay any heed to. This country exports close on £8billion of goods and services to Saudi every year so I think that their ownership of a football club here is pretty small beer in comparison

I think as a club we probably particularly irritate a certain level of opposing supporters. Teams that are actually big and, mostly have had some success (Man C, Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal) really don't care about us. Teams that struggle (obvious rivals aside) really don't care either. But teams that think they're big but clearly aren't (Newcastle, Everton, etc.) probably do get pissed off when we get attention that they think is theirs by God-given right. That's the way those sorts of clubs think. They can't change the fact that they lose everything ON the pitch because they're s***e, but when a club like Palace start taking over where they think should rank off the pitch too, well, they start to moan. Palace basking in the limelight is probably too much for a small, regional club that has a few noisy supporters of its own to deal with.

Reading used to p1ss me off when we played them, which might be comparable, but that was because of their misplaced arrogance. Difference is we could’ve been where we are now a few times whereas they are a rugby town, if that.

I’ve lived up here for the past five years. Most blokes in Newcastle are into football - there’s f all else going on - and most support Newcastle or Sunderland. There are v few plastic Man U etc fans. This cultivates and exaggerates their level of support when things are going well, and creates widespread intolerance and abuse when they aren’t winning. Newcastle fans can’t stand that they haven’t won a trophy for over 50 years, they only see the big 6 as having any right to be doing better than them. The article in the mag on Palace - you could substitute any of Leicester, Brighton, Villa, Wolves. They do know how to drink beer and eat chips like you wouldn’t believe.

Jealousy, plain and simple. If we were in the Championship they wouldn’t even mention us. We are seen now as stepping on their toes and they don’t like it. I have a Geordie mate and it will absolutely irate him if we win the cup, purely for the fact that they haven’t, in his lifetime anyway. West Ham are the same! Personally I am absolutely loving it, we are heading for something very special and no one likes it!
