Rooney, a great natural talent who didn't have the nouse to fulfill his potential. Cos he was, at heart, a lout.

Remind me who England's all time top scorer is?

Absolutely correct. The media gives its customers what they want whether you're left wing, right wing or a supporter of a big club.

Regional and local media are loyal to their local clubs as that is who their readers and audiences support. But, regional media is in decline and, by definition, only had a limited reach.

I was surrounded by Gooners fans crying into their beer the other night in a pub in Penzance. I was the only Eagle there, although I have met two other Palace fans in the town in the past.

So, clearly, the Arse have a much greater national and international reach than Palace and this will be reflected in their coverage by the national broadcast and printed media.

It's infuriating as a Palace fan but inevitable. However, as we grow as a club so will our media. How much more coverage do we now get than Charlton and Millwall?

It's good to see someone who sees life as it is and doesn't have a huge chip on their shoulder.

When we are in Spain and the bars and restaurants are showing Premier League footie there is always a huge cheer when one of the top six scores

Obviously in 'macro' terms, the bigger clubs will get more coverage.

But when Arsenal play Crystal Palace (for example), there is absolutely no excuse for a national newspaper previewing the game with just one mention of the name of the home team and no further references. The vast majority of the readers ("customers" ) of that national newspaper are NOT Arsenal supporters, so whose needs does the paper think it is addressing? I would suggest that more of its readers would have been supporting Crystal Palace than Arsenal, therefore in not giving those people what THEY want, they are - by definition - exhibiting bias.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

You're right YT. Same occurs in all sports reporting. Papers this weekend will be more focused on Hamilton's problems rather than Ferrari's success in the Australian
GP for instance.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I think that many journos are pretty lazy and will have a better knowledge of bigger clubs and their issues than the likes of Palace. Hence, that's what they write about and comment upon.

I'm not sure if the BBC's current affairs remit of 'balance' applies in sport. However, I remember in years gone by on FA Cup Final Day, that its coverage of each team's preparations, route to the final, celebrity fans etc. etc. was pretty much the same.

55 years on the Palace rollercoaster!

'and in the Premier League, Arsenal suffered a shock defeat which will significantly compromise their bid to finish in the top four. They conceded the first goal after x minutes with a second goal getting past their keeper just before half time. Mikel Arteta said that their performance was just not good enough and that changes will need to be made in their overall tactics....

Granit Xhaka got a yellow card for a shirt pull and Smith-Rowe was carted off with a suspected knee injury

cue a ten-second recorded clip of Arteta post-match...

And in other news, Will Smith will not be seeking medical attention for his hand after b1tch-slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. Later we will have a one hour expose of all the latest developments in this big news story from last week.

Eagles, i sh1t you not. The Media are all a bunch of birth-canals.

What are talking about?? Top all time goalscorer for his country, 250 odd goals for Man Utd, he won every major honour at club level, that’s not too shabby

Not saying he wasn't good. But he could have been better. He was thought by many to be better than both Messi and Ronaldo at 18/19. Look where that comparison went.

He scored goals for England but in so many mickey mouse games. In the important tough games he rarely shone through.

If he'd had Ronaldo's ambition and drive he'd have been the greatest British footballer ever. He settled for being the biggest fish in the English pond with a fondness for booze, smokes and minge (like most of us).

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.
