Where they'll lose is I won't use P & O after this and I do get the odd ferry. I doubt I'm the only one.

I was going to book a ferry this weekend for a trip in May, now going by the tunnel.

I'll use Stena Line or Irish Ferries. I already won't use Ryanair. I've adopted a zero tolerance policy for companies that piss me off. I think it's the best consumers can do. My feeling is goodbye altogether P & O in the not too distant future.

How they were sacked is out of order, but thats the free market and capitalism in full effect.
We do have weak employment rights in the UK, but thats because the electorate vote for them. Nothing will happen to P&O and whats 800 men out of work to the government?

I wonder how this will end up if it goes to the courts - highly likely I would have thought. In such circumstances and given the numbers of employees involved, there is the requirement to consult for either 40/60 days on ways to mitigate the situation. It appears as if the owners have ignored this so they could have large number of unfair dismissal claims on their hands mixed in with discrimination claims.
If P&O also had a European Works Council in place - quite likely I would have thought given the numbers they employ and locations - they could also find themselves facing EU legislation if they simply ignored the EWC.
I suspect this is far from the end of the story and quite rightly so given the disgraceful way they went about it.

Yup I would be surprise if this was legal, as you say you have to go through a consultation process with the unions and workers, unless this has happened and the media has not reported it.

The tories wouldn't help a blind man crossing the road, let alone 800 of our mistreated workers.

At least they were spared execution.

What damage to the brand it must be considerable, hopefully we do care enough.

I'd love to see them all sinking slowly preferably with their owners onboard.

Although we could nationalise them with zero compensation, I don't see why not actually, we could also say there was an email with Putin that shows they are linked and take them as an economic sanction.

Agreed, unless there is no alternative and so far this has not been a problem. I see Michael O'Leary was defending jacking their prices up for people wanting to leave the Ukraine, shameless.

More disgraceful behaviour by companies in the name of profit.

Profit - ah yes, that dirty word, that awful thing, the taxation on which pays for our public services.

I always expect that very little, if any, tax is paid. I suspect the 800 workers would contribute a decent amount in tax and in consumer spending, to the economy. Well, they would have, it'll now become the tax payers' burden to pay for them on the dole. Probably have to pay some kind of redundancy too.
