Tony Bloom's investment over the years has been substantial. Apropos this season, Brighton's transfer expenditure was around £66 Mill, but their sales amounted to around £70 Mill, most of which was the transfer of Ben White to Arsenal. Last season, Brighton's Net Spend was around £7 Mill but their Net Spend in the previous 3 seasons was a total of around £190 Mill. Edited by Willo (17 Mar 2022 10.40am) Yep, they seem to have looked past that. Their big issue is that Bloom hasn't invested in a top notch goalscorer that can finish off their otherwise total domination of the opposition What they can't seem to get their heads around is that those players don't come cheap and wouldn't want to go there anyway.

Also I believe they are determined to keep their wage structure, which whilst is not a bad thing, they will not attract the players they want. I do wonder if “the bubble has burst” and this may be their best season and they will not progress furthe

They don't ( quite rightly ) classify Maupay as a top notch Premier League quality striker. Of their strikers on loan, I thought Andone looked useful but he has attitude issues. Connolly is Championship level at best. They wasted money on Locadia, the Colombian winger and the Iranian player - both of whose names I can't spell without looking them up !

I always had the impression they were going for a Southampton-esque model of scouting diamonds in the rough, selling them on etc. They seemed to me to have fallen more into Watford territory now in having a load of players nobody's ever heard of who may turn up somewhere else down the line and cause you to double take 'I recognise that name from somewhere@.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

The player is Jahanbakhsh who Chris Hughton signed from AZ Alkmaar.Scored a number of goals for AZ, some quite spectacular and provided a number of assists but it just never worked out for him at Brighton. He primarily played on the right for AZ in their 4-3-3 formation. The player is Izquierdo a winger with searing pace and a Chris Hughton signing. He is a right-footer whom Brighton deployed out on the left and he liked to cut in from the left on to his favoured right-foot and shoot into the far corner. He also liked to play one-twos in and around the box.
