I'm now taking a taxi only for the 100 yards to the bus stop and completing the rest of the mile journey to the station by bus rather than doing the whole arduous trip in a taxi.

Saving a fortune on tips and walking the extra 10 yards from the bus stop to the station when I get off rather than being dropped right outside the entrance is doing wonders for my waistline.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Of course, one of the best ways of economising is to use both sides of the toilet paper.

Yes leave it on the side for the next user. Be pretty much dried out by then

I've just bought an electric radiator for a small room to give it a go. I've got 13 so an electric boiler is a no go. If it works I may go 50/50 electric and a new gas boiler.

I've also purchased some insulation board for the dormer which currently only has roof tiles and the plastic.

I've investigated all of the current options for replacing a gas boiler and none work for the house I have without considerable disruption. So I'm going to replace the old gas boiler with a higher tech one that integrates with the nest.

I believe that eventually we will convert from natural gas to hydrogen, but it may take 10/20 years and will be a gradual process. We will need new boilers and other products. Cookers/fires etc.

I'm supposed to be retiring early but may have to delay that thanks to putin.

Aside from illegal stuff, like using red diesel in your diesel car, or shoplifting, do you have any money-saving tips (ala, Viz)

I am collecting old newspapers from the local newsagent to use as firelighters for the open fire.
I swerve Sainsbury's (the tory Barstweard), and shop at Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Home Bargains and B&M.

Petrol is from Morrisons, as they are consistently the cheapest, but sometimes have queues at their pumps.
If I were drinking alcohol, that would still be a large expense. I know my neighbours haven't moderated their drinking, in spite of spiralling bills. You have to get solace some place.

And we aren't shopping ethically any more. Organic is no longer on the menu.

Any More ?

I've binned Spotify, will be swapping my phone contract this week to halve the monthly cost,

My father in laws been using that joke ever since I’ve known him, about 36 years now, EVERY time someone gets up to go to the loo, ‘use both sides’ he says ‘we’re not made of money’

In the morning boil an egg in a sauspan and make a cup of tea with the left over water. Saves boiling the kettle.

When your next relative dies, use the grey bin. You pay by weight but it's nothing compared to funeral costs.
In a similar vein, get an online chaplaincy for about 20 quid and charge 50 plus a whip round at all family weddings. Insist that your food and drink is free, and don't bring the missus.
The cheapest food has only one syllable - so no more fancy, two syllable, luxury food
