I am not sure that the Freemasons are that dodgy these days. There has been a lot of media attention on them and they have certainly opened up a bit more to the public.

It was an organisation that was setup so people of influence could network with each other and further their aims. Today there are many other ways of doing that so you don't need to be a Freemason to network with a group of other dodgy people just setup a Whatsapp group.
