The West has neither the money (Coronavirus got most of that), the resources (again a big shortfall) or the stomach for any kind of conflict.
The West tried to take the Crimean Peninsula (Ukraine) 'by politics'. Saying it's OK for the Ukraine to join NATO.

Russia wants to sell its gas through the pipeline going into Germany. Europe needs fossil fuels, at least in the short term. Russia need food imports.

There are going to be no winners here, except the Western leaders who will have "averted World War 3, by a show of NATO power" and look to their respective populations to re-elect their thieving Governments. Thank you Biden, Thank you Boris, thank you so very much from stopping a war with those nasty Russians. you are so very clever and please have another massive pay increase and another big house.

I disengage, I turn the page.

Indeed.

If I was Uruguay I'd be worried.

Typical of the moral bankruptcy of the West is Deutsche TV banning the RT News Channel (Russia today).

They don't want Germans to see that in Moscow there is no build-up and complete disinterest in a conflict largely made by the west itself.

The traditional Russian view that NATO is their enemy is being shown to be justified.

Russia has responded by giving Deutsche TV the boot in turn.

Good for them.

When the Berlin wall went down Nato expanded eastwards....a buffer zone between west and east isn't an unreasonable expectation considering the massive distrust between them.

We have all said it many times but a war over this is nuts.

There have been huge failures with Putin....We need to divide Russia from China and our leaders are too stupid to care.

Ben Wallace is quoted as saying yesterday that 'This has the whiff of Munich'. You have to say, there are similarities.

BTW, the recent film, Munich:The Edge Of War, is a good watch.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

He would know that wouldn't he, say that as the tory appeasement of Hitler at Munich led to WW2.

Wallace has the whiff of tory politicians being dismissed as sloganising deaf mutes pretending they are in some way important on the world stage.

A position we, thanks to the tories, have vacated.

His last letter certainly blamed others.

People who kill tens of millions rarely blame themselves.....though Stalin killed many more and got away with it.
