Disagree - you can't field a team of youngsters. It's about finding the balance. Experience counts for an awful lot. Plus the players you've listed still have something to offer. There's a big difference between 29-31 and 36+. It's not like we're talking about Dann or Cahill last season. Potentially agree about Clyne if we're not going to use him, which it doesn't seem like we are.

Not sure why you don’t agree perhaps you could elaborate. Rak-Sakyi or Olise for Ayew, Edouard, Mateta or Plange for Benteke, Eze or Edouard for Schlupp. Not sure where the loss of balance or experience is here and these players are all good enough (Rak-Sakyi, Plange of course still unproven at this level). The other players are young but they are not without PL experience. As others have mentioned elsewhere if you get a decent full back on the right you do not need Ayew to help out as much as he currently has to and Olise offers so much more going forwards and can score goals which is what forwards are primarily there for.

We know we need new midfielders and Kelly/Clyne are superfluous other than as emergency cover. Milivojevic is past it and Ward should ultimately be held onto only as cover for a new right back. I agree you need experience but I also think you should move players on whilst they still have some value. I would maybe keep Ayew but the rest can go in my opinion and be improved upon by new signings. There is adequate experience in the rest of the team.

Yeah, that's a fair comment. Sorry wasn't disagreeing with everything...I had interpreted your previous post as wanting to fill the team with youngsters. Therefore was merely stating the importance of experience and older figures in the dressing room etc. But I think we sort of agree, so all good.

Of the attacking midfielders and outright attackers, Mateta, Edouard, Olise, Eze, Plange, Rak-Sakyi, are all young.

Benteke 31, Ayew 30, Zaha 29, Schlupp 29

Given the direction we are heading and a move towards a more youthful squad, why would we look to move any of the young ones on. We should sell Benteke, Schlupp and Ayew along with Milivojevic, Kelly, Clyne, this summer and free up salaries to bring in 2 midfielders, a centre half and right back.

If Zaha finally goes then a top replacement winger would also be a priority.

Of the 6 you are proposing to sell, I believe 4 (Ayew, Kelly, Clyne and Schlupp) are out of contract this summer so can simply be allowed to leave, although I can see the club keeping both Schlupp and Ayew. As to the other 2 you mentioned, we need to find someone who wants them and are prepared to pay the kind of wages we are paying. Quite frankly, I would be surprised if there'll be any takers for either Benteke or Milivojevic and so we will probably have them until their contracts expire next summer (2023).

There should definitely be takers. Playing in the right system, they've both still got a lot to offer. A newly promoted for example would benefit from Luka...and a team that puts lots of crosses in would see a lot of goals out of Benteke.

But can such clubs afford the wages?

That is the 90,000 question I suppose!

He’s also scored and created more than nearly all of them.

He’s averaging a goal every 200 mins in a brand new league, with a lot of minutes off the wing, and has just turned 24.. I think he’s one of the best prospects at the club, and whilst I agree he hasn’t quite cracked leading the line yet, his talent is there to see.

But he isn't in the first team

He's very much part of the first team. Just because someone doesn't get picked to start one week, doesn't suddenly make them not part the team. In fact there's no such thing as a 'first team' in premier league football anymore. It's about the squad. Horses for courses etc.

Must be so frustrating for the lot of them knowing there's a position there for the taking, it is now becoming as much a problem as Ferguson.

Mateta is by far the best CF, and he is only average, Edouard doesn't have a clue how to play CF, he may have been alright against the crap up in Scotland but he looks clueless now
