If it’s any consolation the bookies are offering odds of 50/1 against us going down. Bookies seldom get it wrong. Yesterday it was 25/1

Especially since offering 5000-1 on Leicester winning a certain PL title.

Perspective is needed fellow fans. For example:
1. We are averaging just over a point a game which if we continue to do will see us with at least 40 points.
2. We are currently 8 points clear of 18th place (and 6 clear of 16th!)
3. The only one of the 7 teams below to have beaten us so far is Leeds in a game we should have taken something from.
4. We still have to play 6 of those 7 teams (with Watford twice)
5. Whilst it is true that we have failed to win in our last 4 league games, it is also the case that:
- Brentford have lost their last 5
- Everton have lost their last 4
- neither Burnley nor Watford have won in their last 5.
Yes some of these clubs have a game or more in hand but that's no good to them if they can't win them, which on current form seems to be the case,

There is no need to panic because we are NOT currently in a relegation scrap.

At the present we are not in a relegation battle but of course this could change.
We are conceding poor goals, in my humble opinion Newcastle and Everton will improve and whether we improve is matter of conjecture.

I’m in agreement here Willo, currently we are on the edge of the relegation scrap and we still have to play those below us and theses games will not be easy as theses teams are fighting for their PL status. Another concern is the inability of our striker to score goals!

Everton can't get much worse. Aside from Richarlison they were woeful against Newcastle and could have lost by more and Newcastle didn't even look that good. What is Lampard going to do to fix them is the question as they have now lost to us, Norwich, Brighton and Brentford in recent times without barely putting up a fight.

Howe seems to have worked on Newcastle's fitness to compensate for a lack of quality and they didn't stop running the whole game. Having said that, you take ASM out of the team and they still look short on quality up top without Wilson. Wood has been useless so far in the games I've seen.

Despite not taking three points again I still think we look much better as a team than all the teams below us, some by quite a margin. If we play to the best of our abilities then I think we can pick up 6-9 points by the time we play Newcastle in mid-March by which point a win in that game could see us all but safe.

One thing I will say is that Vieira has never come across as a man aiming for PL safety rather one with loftier ambitions. I reckon for him anything less than a top 10 finish or the cup final would be seen as a failure, whereas for many of us staying up having played by far the best football in years would be enough. I genuinely cannot understand anyone who can be unhappy with Vieira or the team right now, unless they only started supporting Palace this season.

Your last few words are probably true. New fans have only known the PL. My lad of 25 gets it as I have told him about our past history in div 2 against your grimsbys and readings etc. It helps that my pals have all explained how s***e we once were as well

It will be interesting to see how things pan out. In our favour we don't really have much in the way of injury concerns or suspensions at the moment. I think we have cover for most positions though i think full back wise we might be a bit light and i would not like to lose Guehi as he our only centre half with genuine pace. Teams like Leeds who are missing a couple of their better players are also going to find it hard especially as they play a high intensity game and backing up last season was always going to be difficult. Players burn out over time if pushed to far for to long which seems to be the case at Leeds.

I’d rather have the points tbh.

You obviously didn’t sit through many games in the Roy Hodgson era

Wow, Mr negative. You are right that we still have to play all those teams below us. On the flip side all those teams below us still have to play us. And we can relax and play whereas they will all be playing with nerves and panic.
Trust me, ask any one of those teams fans where they would want to be, where they are or where we are and they'd bite your arm off to swap places with us. We could play in first gear for the rest of the season and we'll still finish higher than at least 3 of those teams. Reality is we wont play in first gear. We'll likely start winning again and soon.
We are not going to even be in a relegation battle let alone get relegated. Small club mentality. Look UP not down
