Before VAR when a mistake was made, you could feel some sympathy as the game is played at such a pace nowadays.

The scouse pen is completely different in that they had time to analyse it and came to that decision. Football is sometimes about opinions but this is not one of those situations….it was not a pen. You could easily argue a yellow for Jota.

The check on the offside is absurd and you could see Dermot Gallagher’s embarrassment at explaining it. Complete bollox.

Personally, I do not believe in corruption but there has always been an unconscious bias towards the top teams.

Hate scousers.

bit of a Loophole really ?

In A usual in play situation like this, and the Defender was the 'last man', there's still a player behind him - the goalie. yet that is a Red Card? Why should this be any different just because it's the goalkeeper making the challenge and a defender behind him?
doesn't offside cater for that situation - why shouldn't this?

Ok I've had another look and paused it where the keeper slids in an makes contact with the Cardiff player. The LiVARpool defender is in line with the keeper, roughly about 6 to 8 feet away. If the Cardiff player had evaded the scything foul and emerged with the ball he would have been in with the opportunity of a punt toward the open goal, albeit from about 40 yards. I think most professional players can hit the target from that sort of distance, so this was a clear scoring opportunity denied by foul play.
Crucially it was 0-0 at the time and Cardiff were playing with good intent. Sound familiar?

I found it interesting that the clip shown to Friend only shows the contact it does not show Jota running into the box, looking at Guaita and adjusting his run to take him into the keeper. In other words, the contact has been taken out of context with the overall play, almost as if they were searching for something to make it look like a penalty.

Shocking, truly shocking officiating by the VAR official and then Friend for being sucked in.

Exactly this. I couldn’t believe the footage he was shown which is why Pawson should be the one taking all the heat for both goals.

Totally disagree, sounds like "your ref" got it wrong too.. if a defender/outfield player had made that challenge in the same sort of situation he would've/should've been RED carded.. apart from anything else the keeper had his studs up, another RED card challenge by todays rules.. as for the paltry "punishment" Kevin Friend was given, it means nothing now as it won't change the result.. the scoucers cheated once AGAIN and got away with it once AGAIN.. SALAH one of the worst.. why hasn't Craig Pawson been "punished"?.. Friend hadn't given the penalty, Pawson told him to look at the VAR monitor suggesting/telling him it was a pen.. also what about their 2nd goal against us, Roberto Firmino in an offside position and interfering with play.. where was VAR, Pawson, then telling Friend it was offside.. both should be demoted and/or fined.. it does smack of favouritism particularly when you add in the two very bad decisions against Cardiff at the weekend when it was still 0-0..

It’s another one of those “anywhere else on the pitch that would’ve been a foul” or “if that hadn’t been done just after kick-off it would’ve been a card” deals.
When one of the commentators pets commits a foul it’s almost always “out of frustration”.

would love to agree with you the only grey area , is the tackle reckless and should be a foul for serious foul play which is a red card , but the red for preventing a goal scoring chance , theres more than last man involed , the liverpool player was close enough to prevent and the player missed controled the ball so would not have had a clear run . we would not have been happy if our keeper was sent off so , i hate it when my mate is right and explains the reason behind it and smiles when saying it grrrrr

So every pundit was wrong, every other player who commented and every fan - except for one or two Liverpool ones - are also wrong. Fair enough, glad that's sorted out.
What I will say is we should get over it now. It's in the past. Win tonight.
