Before VAR when a mistake was made, you could feel some sympathy as the game is played at such a pace nowadays. The scouse pen is completely different in that they had time to analyse it and came to that decision. Football is sometimes about opinions but this is not one of those situations….it was not a pen. You could easily argue a yellow for Jota. The check on the offside is absurd and you could see Dermot Gallagher’s embarrassment at explaining it. Complete bollox. Personally, I do not believe in corruption but there has always been an unconscious bias towards the top teams. Hate scousers.

In A usual in play situation like this, and the Defender was the 'last man', there's still a player behind him - the goalie. yet that is a Red Card? Why should this be any different just because it's the goalkeeper making the challenge and a defender behind him?

The LiVARpool defender is in line with the keeper, roughly about 6 to 8 feet away. If the Cardiff player had evaded the scything foul and emerged with the ball he would have been in with the opportunity of a punt toward the open goal, albeit from about 40 yards. I think most professional players can hit the target from that sort of distance, so this was a clear scoring opportunity denied by foul play. Edited by southnorwoodhill (08 Feb 2022 9.58am)

In other words, the contact has been taken out of context with the overall play, almost as if they were searching for something to make it look like a penalty. Shocking, truly shocking officiating by the VAR official and then Friend for being sucked in. Exactly this. I couldn’t believe the footage he was shown which is why Pawson should be the one taking all the heat for both goals.

SALAH one of the worst.. why hasn't Craig Pawson been "punished"?.. Friend hadn't given the penalty, Pawson told him to look at the VAR monitor suggesting/telling him it was a pen.. also what about their 2nd goal against us, Roberto Firmino in an offside position and interfering with play.. where was VAR, Pawson, then telling Friend it was offside.. both should be demoted and/or fined.. it does smack of favouritism particularly when you add in the two very bad decisions against Cardiff at the weekend when it was still 0-0..

It’s another one of those “anywhere else on the pitch that would’ve been a foul” or “if that hadn’t been done just after kick-off it would’ve been a card” deals.

So every pundit was wrong, every other player who commented and every fan - except for one or two Liverpool ones - are also wrong. Fair enough, glad that's sorted out.
