I hadn't realised it was such a clear offside.

At the point of delivery Firminho is offside.

So how can it be otherwise, he cannot be inactive.

I am losing my brain over VAR I was beginning to think it was making sense.

How is this offside - Doh!

Not only is it offside but to say he wasn't interfering is just rubbish. Firstly he was central and clearly drags Mitchell across.

Then he makes an attempt to get the ball. This is critical.

A few years ago we scored away at Everton when the keeper DIDN'T move as a Delaney header went into the corner. Macca was slightly offside standing to the side of the keeper, not in his line of sight. He stuck a leg out but made no contact. It was disallowed as he attempted to get to the ball.

Yesterday he was both interfering, was positioned centrally and he made an attempt to get to the ball.

Really poor.

The penalty was clearly wrong. What i noticed is that the ref only ever saw the incident in slow motion. As even Carragher said (the most biased Liverpool commentator ever) these things often look worse in slow mo.

Another point Palace are naive when these incidents happen. If we had put pressure on the ref after the 2nd goal i think VAR would have had a proper look. Newcastle did just that after our late 'winner' earlier in the season and sure enough VAR had a good look. I don't like it when teams do this but is does work. Same with penalties - some teams just try and delay the kick by arguing . Leeds under George Graham did this brilliantly at Selhurst during a cup match when Bruce Dyer missed in the last minute

Personally I’d like my referees to be objective! He was off side and active. Mark Clattenberg says both decisions were wrong!

Which isn't to say that he wouldn't have made same decision if he'd been the ref yesterday..........

Managed to find this albeit from Dermot Gallagher, i did see the 'official' EPL response somewhere online, but can't find it now(typical) . . . [Link]

This is Gallagher trying to make the case for it not being offside

[Link]

He doesn't really say he thinks it's fine, just that the VAR thought it was. Bit of a nothing statement.

Stephen Warnock makes the point everyone is thinking about as well as can be. Mitchell is clearly occupied by Firmino - he even has his hand on him at the point of the cross demonstrating he's occupied by him, which leaves Ox free.

It's not the fault of VAR, the VAR system provides the footage that has allowed all but two people to come to the correct decisions - problem is the two people are the utter morons whose opinions counted.

I'm at a loss as to how we've had two such clear decisions go against us in the same game - absolutely no one other than the officials thinks either of these is okay.

The real answer to all this top 6 club bias (which is nothing new by the way)
is:-
Palace should have played more intense football from the start ( they looked slow and laboured, lost, bereft of ideas and short on an overall team plan to deal with Liverpool compared with how they came out in in the second half.
They certainly shouldn't have let Liverpool run around giving the freedom of Selhurst Park to them for 30 minutes and at least have someone marking Van Dyke at corners!!!
We have also have to score more of the many chances we created. Our chances to goal conversion rate is woeful.
Then we wouldn't be so worried about the sh*t refereeing and crap decisions that go our way (and those lower 10-12 clubs in the Premiership).
Yes we let Liverpool needlessly score from a corner and they profited from an offside decision that should have been ruled out.
However we still should have gone in at half time at 2-2 having had good chances ourselves!!!

Palace then should have scored again within 2 minutes of the restart to take the lead, this then makes it an entirely different game for the rest of the match.
Liverpool desperately chasing for a result, craving the 3 points they need and Palace trying to catch them on the break just as we did for Edouard's goal (slicing 'em wide open)
This doesn't excuse Sunday's absolute misuse of var and what you call inactive and active for offside, lets not go there.

Has anyone suggested doing some research into in-game betting activity? Perhaps some heavy bets were placed on a penalty in the closing stage of the game?

The regular bookies and the football authorities do have a process for suspicious bets but that only works with the big name companies.

If there is a betting syndicate in Asia they may well fly below the radar.

This perfectly illustrates why the linesman (who as you can see is in line with Firmino) should flag straight away for offsides instead of waiting for play to finish. If he had, we wouldn't be talking about this now.

Palace have had some diabolical decisions against us over the years, and yesterday's penalty was up there along with Clive Allen's 'goal' away to Coventry and Freddie Sears' ?? 'goal' when it hit the back of the net, then the advertising hoardings and bounced back into play against ???

What this really shows is that referees have been consistently dogshyte against us for years.

Clattenburg at the cup final anyone ?

Yep, that's right ambrose - a nothing statement indeed. He appears totally unconvinced about what he's actually saying.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
