In the short term, yes, because like Roy Dyche would prioritize making us solid, closing down space, absorbing pressure, and avoiding mistakes. When you play football that stresses mitigating risk at all costs, in the short-term you probably end up with a few defeats turned into draws. However, a year from now we'd be in the same position and a year after that the same again. Dyche and Roy don't build and progress teams; they exist in perpetual survival mode and the odd better-than-that season is an unexpected bonus. Plus, even in that odd good season, their sides aren't pleasant to watch. This year, Vieira's emergent side, still learning, still being formed, may well end up with 5-7 points fewer than Dyche or Roy would achieve. Because sometimes to learn how to win, you have to risk a defeat. But next year, with a year under the belts and better versed in the required playing style, I expect they'll far exceed anything Dyche, or Roy, would ever aspire to. Our focus needs to be on long-term gain, not very short term pain. It's pretty obvious to me we're moving in the right direction as a club.

I am glad to see many comments supporting PV, i agree possible short term gain is not the way forward, long term planning is vital, PV is raw but will get better game by game, i think this summer a lot of players out and a few new players in
We will, sadly, lose Gallagher.

For us fans, its all about what we want to buy into. Perpetual survival football. Or progressive football that hopefully elevates us.

It's encouraging to read some of these posts with folk recognising that PV is rebuilding our team with limited resources. The OP was asking if Dyche would have garnered more points for us so far. But to my mind that is an irrelevance. The fact is we are, at the moment anyway, in a reasonably comfortable position in the league and barring a complete implosion we will still be in the PL next season. I think we have all taken to PV and he to us. One or two fidgets suggesting we are fielding the wrong players or using the wrong tactics, but generally speaking we are enjoying the way we are playing our football. Certainly compared with the last couple of years. Unlike say, Roy going to Watford to try to rescue their season, PV coming here was a planned, long term appointment to cement our Premier League credentials. It's all going to plan so far and I am sure there aren't many who would want a change any time soon.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
